Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of three things: the slip of a scholar, the hypocrite's disputing by means of the Qur'an, and the world cutting your necks. As for the slip of a scholar: if he is rightly guided, do not blindly follow him in your religion, and if he slips, do not cut off your hopes from him. As for the hypocrite's disputing by means of the Qur'an: the Qur'an is a beacon of light, just as there are beacons for a road; whatever seems known (ma'ruf) to you, take it, and whatever seems unfamiliar (munkar) to you, refer it back to the one who knows it. As for the world cutting your necks: whoever Allah Almighty places richness in his heart, he is rich."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrator Amr bin Murrah did not hear from Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him). Likewise, Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, was declared thiqah (trustworthy) by Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth, and according to one report Yahya also declared him trustworthy, while Ahmad and a group (of scholars) declared him da'if (weak).
