Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: We went out on a military expedition and felt severe hunger, so much so that one or two dates each were distributed in the army. Meanwhile we were on the seashore. When the sea cast out a dead fish, the people cut from its meat or fat as much as they wished. That fish was like a hillock. I learned that when the people came and told the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have any of it with you?"

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent our caravan of three hundred men in search of a caravan of Quraysh, making Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) its commander. We stayed on the seashore until our provisions ran out, because of which we ate the leaves of trees. Then the sea cast out a fish named "al-Anbar", and we ate the fish's meat for fifteen days. Our bodies became healthy. Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) set up one of its ribs and had the largest camel and the tallest man in the army ride on it and pass beneath it. A man slaughtered three camels, then (did so) the next day too. After that Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade him. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) thought that he was Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him).
