Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came from Bahrain, and at a place called al-Rabadhah some people of Iraq who were in the state of ihram asked me about game they had found floating on the water; they were asking about buying it and eating it. I permitted them to buy this game and eat it while in the state of ihram. Then I came to Madinah, and there was doubt in my heart about the ruling I had given them, so I mentioned it to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked: What did you instruct them about it? Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I permitted them to buy it and eat it. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Had you said anything other than that, I would have done such-and-such, as if he were threatening him.
