It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that two writings were found in the hilt of the sword of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, the most insolent of people is the one who strikes someone who did not strike him, the one who kills someone who did not kill (any relative of his), and the one who takes as patrons others than his benefactors. Whoever does that has disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and no voluntary or obligatory deed of his will be accepted."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When morning comes, Iblis spreads out his armies and says: 'Whoever leads a Muslim astray today, I will place the crown on him.' So one of them comes and says: 'I kept after him until he disobeyed his parents.' Iblis says: 'He may soon start treating them kindly.' Then another comes and mentions (some other sin). Then another comes and says: 'I kept after him until he divorced his wife.' He says: 'He may well marry again.' Then another comes and says: 'I did not leave him until he committed shirk (associated partners with Allah).' He says: 'Yes, you are the one (who did a great deed)!' Then another comes and says: 'I stayed after him until he committed murder.' Iblis says: 'Yes, you are the one!' And he places the crown on him."
