Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Sahih li-ghayrihi.
Technical note: This chain is weak; there is criticism concerning the memory of Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq, who is al-Madani. Imam al-Bukhari said in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (5/258): "He sometimes fell into error (wahm)."
Analysis: We say: He has contradicted Yunus bin Yazid al-Ayli, as the author will cite right after it, for Yunus narrated it from al-Zuhri, from Muslim bin Yazid, from Abu Shurayh. Imam al-Bukhari mentioned it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (7/277), declared the narration (in this chain) naming Ata' bin Yazid to be an error, and declared the narration naming Muslim bin Yazid to be correct, which is the next chain with the author (al-Hakim).
Statements of the imams: Ibn Abi Hatim says in "Ilal al-Hadith" (1340): I asked my father (Abu Hatim) about a hadith narrated by Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq from al-Zuhri, from Ata' bin Yazid, from Abu Shurayh, and Abu Hatim said: "This is how Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq narrated it, but he was contradicted. Uqayl, Yunus and others narrated it, saying: from al-Zuhri, from Muslim bin Yazid, from Abu Shurayh, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and this is the correct one. Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq made a mistake."
Research note: Yet Abd al-Rahman is not alone in it, for Amr bin Dinar corroborated him, though he narrated it as "mursal" (as will come). And even if the preserved (mahfuz) version is the one with "Muslim bin Yazid", Muslim bin Yazid is "majhul" (unknown), as will be explained in the grading of the following hadith.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (26/16378) via Yazid bin Zuray', from Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq, with this same chain. See the rest of its sources there.
Corroboration: Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq is not alone in this narration; rather, Amr bin Dinar corroborated him, as found in al-Azraqi's "Akhbar Makkah" (2/124) and al-Fakihi's "Akhbar Makkah" (1459). This narration is via Sufyan bin Uyaynah, from Amr bin Dinar, from Ibn Shihab (al-Zuhri), from Ata' bin Yazid al-Laythi: "Two men of Khuza'ah killed a man of Hudhayl at Muzdalifah. They came to Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) so that they would intercede for them with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and said: Allah, glorified is He, made Makkah sacred; people did not make it sacred. It was not lawful for anyone before me, nor will it be lawful for anyone after me, and it was made lawful for me only for an hour of a day. So it is sacred by Allah's sanctity until the Day of Resurrection. Let no one take me as a precedent and say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) killed there. I do not know anyone more insolent towards Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, than three: a man who kills there, a man who kills in the Haram out of the blood feuds of the Jahiliyyah, and a man who kills someone other than his killer. By Allah, the blood money of this slain man will be paid."
Technical note: It is reported as "mursal", and its chain up to Ata' bin Yazid is sahih.
Supporting reports: On the topic of "showing the eye what it has not seen" (i.e., false dreams and the like) there are narrations from several Companions, among them Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (al-Bukhari: 3509), and Ibn Abbas and Ibn Umar (al-Bukhari: 7042, 7043). And the narration of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) will come with the author (al-Hakim) at number (8384).
