It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not teach you a surah the like of which is not in the Torah, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Psalms, nor even in the (rest of the) Qur'an?" I said: "Certainly." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope that you will learn it before you go out of that door." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and I stood up with him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) began talking to me, holding my hand in his, and I (out of eagerness to learn the surah) deliberately began walking slowly, lest he (peace and blessings be upon him) go out before telling me that surah. When I drew near the door, I said: "O Messenger of Allah, the surah you promised me?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you recite when you stand for prayer?" I recited the Opening of the Book (al-Fatihah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is that surah, and this is the Seven Oft-Repeated (al-Sab' al-Mathani) about which Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: 'And We have certainly given you seven of the oft-repeated verses and the Great Qur'an' [Surah al-Hijr: 87], which I have been given."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it, and there is a difference (among the narrators) from al-Ala' bin Abd al-Rahman in its narration.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called him while he was praying; when he finished his prayer he caught up with him (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on my hand while he intended to go out of the door of the mosque, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope that you will not go out of the mosque until you learn a surah the like of which was not revealed in the Torah, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Qur'an." I began to walk slowly in hope of (learning the surah), then I said: "O Messenger of Allah, the surah you promised me?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you recite when you begin the prayer?" I recited "All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds" to its end, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is this surah, and it is the Seven Oft-Repeated (al-Sab' al-Mathani) and the Great Qur'an which I have been given."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that he recited "All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds" in full before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, it is the Seven Oft-Repeated (al-Sab' al-Mathani) and the Great Qur'an which I have been given."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was standing in prayer, and he did not answer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ubayy, what prevented you from answering me?" He said: "I was praying." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Has Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, not said: 'Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you' [Surah al-Anfal: 24]? Do not leave the mosque until I teach you a surah the like of which Allah did not reveal in the Torah, the Gospel or the Psalms." Ubayy said: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) leaned on my hand, until, when he reached the far end of the mosque, I said: "O Prophet of Allah, you said such-and-such." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, it is the Mother of the Qur'an (Umm al-Qur'an). By the One in whose hand my soul is, Allah did not reveal the like of it in the Torah, the Gospel or the Psalms. It is (equivalent to) the seven long surahs that I have been given, and it is the Great Qur'an." [Surah al-Hijr: 87]
