Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I am the last to come among a thousand or more prophets, and indeed no prophet (peace be upon him) was sent to any nation except that he warned his people about the trial of the Dajjal. And surely, for me, regarding him, such a thing has been made clear which has not been made clear for anyone else, and that is (that he) is one-eyed, and indeed your Lord is not one-eyed.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned the Dajjal before the people and said: Surely Allah is not one-eyed, and the Dajjal's right eye is blind, as if his eye is a protruding grape.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sa'd that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, there was no prophet before me except that he informed his ummah about the Dajjal, and I am telling you about a characteristic of his which no one before me has mentioned: he is one-eyed, and Allah, the Exalted, is not one-eyed.

It is narrated from Faltan bin Asim that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The Messiah of misguidance (Dajjal) is a man whose forehead will be very prominent and his right eye will be obliterated. He will have a broad chest and there will be a stoop in him, as if he is the son of so-and-so of Ibn Abdul-Uzza, or he said: like Abdul-Uzza bin so-and-so. (In Sahih Bukhari, Abdul-Uzza bin Qatan is mentioned)

It is narrated from Hazrat Imran bin Husain that he reported from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: Whoever among you hears about the emergence of the Dajjal should keep as far away from him as possible. Indeed, a person will come to him thinking that he is a believer, but he will continue to stay with him until, seeing the wonders that he presents, he will follow him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah that he said: No one asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the Dajjal more than I did. Hazrat Mughirah said: You have not asked me about him. The narrator Qais says: I submitted, “People say that he will have food and drink with him.” He replied: The matter of the Dajjal is easier upon Allah Almighty than that (in reality, these things will not be established for the Dajjal, and whatever there will be, it will be a deception and a trial).

Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit narrates from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: Seek refuge with Allah from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal). We said: We seek refuge with Allah from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that he said the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When any one of you recites the Tashahhud, he should also seek refuge from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).

Hazrat Abu Sarihah Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Asad narrates that he said the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards us and said that the Day of Judgment will not be established until ten signs appear. He mentioned the rising of the sun from the west and he mentioned the Dajjal.

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have come after a thousand prophets or more, and Allah Almighty did not send any prophet to his people except that he warned them about the Dajjal. And indeed, a matter has been explained to me which was not explained to anyone before me: verily, he (the Dajjal) is one-eyed, and Allah Almighty is not one-eyed. His right eye is defective; it has no pupil and is protruding, and the other is as if it is a shining bright star. From every nation, those who follow him will call him by the name of "God" in their own language.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that he said: People mentioned Dajjal in the presence of Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas, so someone among those present said that "K, F, R" will be written between his two eyes. Mujahid says that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: I did not hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As for Ibrahim, look at your companion for his likeness. Yazid, the narrator, says that by "companion" is meant the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself. And as for Musa, he was a man of wheat-colored complexion, with curly hair and tall stature, as if he were from the men of the Shanu’ah tribe, riding a red camel with a bridle of dry grass, as if I am seeing him coming down the valley reciting the Talbiyah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Asma bint Yazid that she said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: You have nothing to fear from this Dajjal. If he appears during my lifetime, I will confront him, and if he appears after my death, then Allah, the Exalted, will be the protector of every Muslim.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that he said the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: We seek refuge with Allah Almighty from the Antichrist (Maseeh Dajjal).

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal is blind in his right eye, there is a membrane on his eye (that is, a disease in which a film like a nail appears over the eye), and between his two eyes is written "Kafir" (disbeliever).

Abdullah bin Abbas narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Verily, the Dajjal has curly hair and is extremely white. The hair on his head is as if they are branches of a tree. Among the people, he most closely resembles Abdul Uzza bin Qatan. If people are destroyed because of his resemblance, he is one-eyed, and Allah Almighty is not one-eyed. (The meaning is that if people follow him out of ignorance due to his resemblance, even then he cannot remove the defect of being one-eyed, whereas Allah Almighty is pure and free from all defects.)

It is narrated from Hazrat Humaid bin Hilal that he said Hazrat Hisham bin Amir Ansari used to see some people going to Hazrat Imran bin Husain and other companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He became angry and said, "By Allah, you go to those people who were neither more present with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) than me, nor did they remember his hadiths more than I do. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: From the creation of Adam until the establishment of the Hour, there is no greater trial than that of the Dajjal."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I know well the deception that will be with the Dajjal. He will have two streams with him; one of them will appear, to the onlooker, as white water, and the other will appear as a blazing fire. If anyone is faced with this situation, he should enter into what he perceives as fire, close his eyes, then lower his head to drink from it, for it will be cool water. And indeed, the Dajjal will have a damaged eye; over his eye will be a thick piece of skin (a disease called "zafrah" due to which a membrane like a nose covers the eye). Between his two eyes will be written "Kafir" (disbeliever), which every believer will be able to read, whether he is literate or illiterate.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I know well the deception that will be with the Dajjal. He will have a blazing fire and a river of cool water with him. So if any of you encounters him, do not be destroyed by it; close your eyes and jump into what you think is fire, for surely it will be cool water.

Mother of the believers, Hazrat Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was crying. He asked, "What is making you cry?" I replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), it is because of the mention of Dajjal." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not cry. If he appears while I am alive, I will suffice for you, and if I pass away, then surely your Lord is not one-eyed. Surely, the Jews of Isfahan will emerge with him. He will travel until he reaches the outskirts of Madinah, and at that time Madinah will have seven gates, at each gate there will be two angels. The wicked people of Madinah will go out towards him. He will travel until he reaches the place of Ludd. Hazrat Isa ibn Maryam will descend and kill him. Then Hazrat Isa will remain on the earth for forty years, or the narrator says, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, for a period close to forty years, as a just Imam and a fair judge."

Hazrat Ibn Hawalah Azdi narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: Whoever is saved from three things is indeed saved. He said this three times. The companions asked, "What are these things, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: My death, the Dajjal, and the killing of a caliph who is steadfast upon the truth and gives the truth.

It is narrated from Abu Ubaidah that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: After Prophet Noah, every prophet warned his people about the Dajjal. And indeed, I am warning you about him. (The narrator says) The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) described him to us and said: Soon, he will be encountered by the one who has seen me, or he said: the one who has heard my words. The companions asked: How will our hearts be at that time? Will they be like they are today? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They will be better than today.

It is narrated from Hazrat Muadh bin Jabal that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The flourishing of Bayt al-Maqdis is the ruin of Yathrib, and the ruin of Yathrib is the appearance of the great battle (which will be with the Romans), and the appearance of the great battle is the conquest of Constantinople, and the conquest of Constantinople is the emergence of Dajjal. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, struck his hand on the thigh of that man or said, on both his shoulders, and then said: This is true, just as you are here, or he said: just as you are sitting here—the reference was to Hazrat Muadh himself.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Nazrah that he said: On Friday, we came to Hazrat Usman bin Abu al-As so that we could compare our (written) scroll with his scroll. Then Hazrat Usman bin Abu al-As arrived, and we gathered around him. Hazrat Usman said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: The Muslims will have three cities. One city will be at the confluence of two seas, one city will be on an island, and one city will be in Syria (Sham). Then the people will be alarmed three times. Then Dajjal will emerge among the military armies and will be defeated towards the east. The first city he will go to will be the city at the confluence of two seas. Its inhabitants will be divided into three groups: one group will stay there and say, "We will go near him and see what he is," one group will join the villagers, and one group will go to the neighboring city. With him (i.e., Dajjal) will be seventy thousand people wearing green sheets. Most of his followers will be Jews and women. Then he will come to the neighboring city. Its inhabitants will be divided into three groups: one group will stay there and say, "We will go near him and see what he is," one group will join the villagers, and the third group will go to their neighboring city. Then he will go to Syria. The Muslims will gather at the place of Aqabah Afiq. They will send their cattle, and their cattle will suffer harm. This will be hard on them, and they will experience severe hunger and hardship, to the extent that one of them will burn the string of his bow and eat it. While they are in this state, at dawn a caller will call out, "O people, your help has arrived!" He will call out three times. They will say to each other, "Surely this is the voice of a satisfied man." Isa (peace be upon him) will descend at the time of Fajr prayer, and the leader of the people will say to him, "O Spirit of Allah! Come forward and lead us in prayer." Isa will say, "You are the leaders of this Ummah over one another. You go forward and lead us in prayer." The leader will go forward and lead them in prayer. When they finish the prayer, Isa will take his spear and go towards Dajjal. When Dajjal sees him, he will melt as lead melts. Isa will place his spear between his chest and kill him. Then his companions will be defeated.

It is narrated from Hazrat Safeena that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon to us and said: Indeed, there has not passed any prophet except that he warned his nation about the Dajjal. He is blind in the left eye, and in his right eye there will be a thick piece of skin. Between his two eyes will be written "Kafir" (disbeliever). He will have with him two valleys, one of which will be Paradise and the other Fire. His Paradise is Fire and his Fire is Paradise. And with him will be two angels from among the angels, who will resemble two prophets from among the prophets. One of them will be on his right side and the other on his left side. He will say to the people: "Am I not your Lord? Do I not give life and cause death?" One of the two angels will say: "You have lied." But none of the people will hear his words except his companion (the other angel), who will say to his companion (the angel): "You have spoken the truth." The people will hear his words and think that he has affirmed the Dajjal, and this will be a trial. Then he will go on until he comes to Madinah Munawwarah, but he will not be allowed to enter it. He will say: "This is the town of that man." He will go on until he reaches Shaam, and then Allah Almighty will destroy him near the pass of 'Afiq.

It is narrated from Hazrat Asir bin Jabir that he said: In Kufa, a red wind blew. A man came whose habit was nothing except that he would say, "O Abdullah bin Mas'ud, the Day of Judgment has come." The narrator says that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud was reclining, so he sat up and said: "Indeed, the Day of Judgment will not be established until inheritance is not distributed and there is no joy over receiving spoils of war." And he said: "There will be enemies who will gather against the people of Islam, and the people of Islam will prepare to confront them." And he gestured with his hand towards Syria. (The narrator says) I said, "Do you mean the Romans?" He said, "Yes." The battle will be at its peak at that time. The Muslims will make a pact of death that they will not return except victorious. They will fight until night comes between them; both sides will stop, and neither will be victorious, and the pact will end. Then the Muslims will again make a pact of death that they will not return from the battle except victorious. They will fight until evening; both sides will stop, and neither will be victorious, and the pact will end. Then, when the fourth day comes, the army of the Muslims will attack them. Then Allah Almighty will decree defeat upon them (the enemies of Islam). There will be such a fierce battle among them as has never been seen before, until a bird passes over them and does not go beyond them, but falls dead. Of a hundred sons of one father, only one man will return. Over what spoils will there be joy, and what inheritance will be distributed? While they are in this state, suddenly they will hear of an even greater battle. A crier will come to them and say that the Dajjal is present among their progeny. Whatever things are in their possession, they will leave them and turn their attention (to the Dajjal), and will send ten horsemen as scouts to gather information about the enemy. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I know their names and the names of their fathers, and even the colors of their horses. They will be among the best horsemen on the face of the earth."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The parents of the Dajjal will remain for thirty years without having any children, then a one-eyed son will be born to them who will be more harmful and less beneficial. His eyes will sleep but his heart will not sleep. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, described the parents of the Dajjal and said: His father will be tall, thin, and have a long nose, as if his nose is like a beak, and his mother will have large breasts.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Shall I not tell you a hadith about the Dajjal which no prophet has told his people? Surely, he is one-eyed, and surely with him will come something like Paradise and Hell. That which he will call Paradise will in fact be Fire. And I warn you against him as Noah warned his people.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The awe and terror of the Messiah Dajjal will not enter Madinah Munawwarah. At that time, Madinah will have seven gates, and at each gate there will be two angels appointed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Raja bin Abi Raja that he said: Hazrat Buraidah entered the mosque and Hazrat Mihjan was at the door of the mosque and Sakbah was offering prayer. Hazrat Buraidah said: Will you pray as Sakbah is praying? Hazrat Mihjan said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand, then climbed Uhud and looked towards Madinah and said: Woe to its mother, Madinah will be deserted by its inhabitants, although it will be better than before (or the narrator says) he said: Madinah Munawwarah will be more populated than before. Dajjal will come there, and at every gate of its gates there will be an angel with its wings spread, so he will not be able to enter Madinah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dharr that he said: I would prefer to swear ten times that Ibn Sayyad is the same Dajjal rather than swear once that he is not Dajjal, and this is because I heard something from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding this matter. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent me to the mother of Ibn Sayyad and said: Ask her how long she carried him. She said: I carried him for twelve months. The narrator says: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and informed him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Ask her about his crying. So his mother said: He cried like a two-month-old. Then Ibn Sayyad said, or the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: I have concealed a word in my heart for you. He said: You have concealed for me the bone of a white goat, and he wanted to say "Dukhan." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Go away, you cannot go beyond what has been decreed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was asleep. We mentioned the Dajjal, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up with his face red. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not the Dajjal that I fear most for you; rather, I fear more for you the misguided leaders."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam that after the emergence of Dajjal, people will remain for forty years, and dates will be cultivated, and markets will be established.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The trial of Dajjal had already been created while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was still alive.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The emergence of Dajjal is not more severe for me than the loss of the reins of my mount.

Hazrat Abu Amr Shaibani narrates: I was sitting with Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) when a Bedouin came, sat down on his knees in front of him, and said, "Has the Dajjal appeared?" Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "What is the Dajjal? Indeed, I fear more the things that will come before the Dajjal than the Dajjal himself. Indeed, his trial will last for forty nights."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Surely, the whole world will be gathered for the Dajjal except for Makkah and Madinah. So he will come to Madinah Munawwarah and on every road leading to it, he will find rows of angels. He will come to the place of Sabkhat al-Jurf and strike in its open field. There will be three earthquakes in Madinah. Every hypocrite man and hypocrite woman will join him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: If the Dajjal appears, some people will bring faith in him even from their graves.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar that Umar asked a man from among the Jews about something and said, "I have found you to be truthful, so tell me about the Dajjal." He replied, "By the god of the Jews, Jesus son of Mary will surely kill him near the place of Lod."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Amr that he said: Jesus son of Mary will descend, and when the Dajjal sees him, he will melt as fat melts. He said that the Dajjal will fight, and the Jews will separate from him. Those Jews will be killed until the stone will say: O servant of Allah, O Muslim, here is a Jew, come and kill him.
