Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates in a marfu’ form that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Hour will not be established until Isa ibn Maryam descends; he will be a just judge and a fair leader. He will break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the jizya. Wealth will become so abundant that no one will accept it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that he said: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Isa ibn Maryam will enter into the state of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah from the place of Faj-ur-Rawha, or he will combine both and enter into Ihram for both.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that he said: The mosques will be new at the coming of Isa. He will soon appear and will break the cross and kill the swine, and those who find him will believe in him. Whoever among you finds him should convey my greetings to him on my behalf. Then he turned towards me (this is the statement of the narrator Hazrat Aqar bin Mughira) and said: O nephew! I consider you the youngest among the people. Therefore, if you find him, convey my greetings to him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Simak that he said: I heard Ibrahim saying that indeed, Jesus will appear; he will break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the jizya.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib that he said Hazrat Abu Bakr asked, "Is there a land in Iraq which is called Khurasan?" The people replied, "Yes." Then Hazrat Abu Bakr said, "Surely, the Dajjal will emerge from there."

Hazrat Abu Bakr narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal will emerge from Khurasan.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that he said: Dajjal will descend at the place of Khuz and Kerman. With him will be eighty thousand people, upon whom there will be green sheets. Their hair will reach down to their feet, and their faces will be as if they are like swollen shields (that is, shields wrapped with garments).

It is narrated from Abdullah, he said: Surely, the ears of the Dajjal's donkey will cover seventy thousand.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that he said: Indeed, before the Dajjal there will be more than seventy Dajjals (i.e., minor Dajjals).

It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi’ bin Utbah bin Abi Waqqas that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You will fight against the people of the Arabian Peninsula and Allah Almighty will grant you victory. Then you will fight against the people of Persia and Allah Almighty will grant you victory. Then you will fight against the people of Rome and Allah Almighty will grant you victory. Then you will fight against the Dajjal and Allah Almighty will grant you victory over him. Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah said: The Dajjal will not emerge until Rome is conquered.

It is narrated from Hazrat Rabi’ bin Hirash that he said Hazrat Uqbah bin Amr said to Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him), “Will you not tell us those things which you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?” He replied, “Why not? I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When Dajjal appears, he will have with him water and fire. What people will consider to be fire will actually be sweet and cool water. Whoever among you encounters this situation, let him fall into what he thinks is fire, for indeed it will be sweet, cool water.” Hazrat Uqbah said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say this in just this way.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Junadah bin Abi Umayyah Dosi, he said: I and one of my companions went to one of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said: We said to him, "Narrate to us what you have heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and do not narrate anything from anyone else, even if he is truthful in your view." He said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood among us one day and said: "I warn you about the Dajjal, I warn you about the Dajjal, I warn you about the Dajjal. Indeed, there has not been any prophet except that he warned his ummah, and O ummah, indeed he will be among you. Indeed, he will have curly hair, a wheat-colored complexion, and his right eye will be obliterated. With him will be Paradise and Fire; his Fire will be Paradise and his Paradise will be Fire. And indeed, with him will be a river of water and a mountain of bread. And he will be given power over one soul; he will kill him, then bring him back to life. He will not be given power over anyone else. He will cause rain to fall from the sky, and the earth will not produce anything. He will remain on the earth for forty mornings, until he reaches every watering place on the earth. And he will not go near four mosques: Masjid al-Haram, the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the Mosque of Bayt al-Maqdis, and the Mosque of Toor. And nothing is confusing for you, for Allah Almighty is not one-eyed." He said this twice, "(and he is one-eyed)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Dajjal will not emerge until his disappearance becomes no less beloved to a believer than his emergence, and his emergence will not harm a believer more than the pebble he picks up from the ground, and the knowledge (about the Dajjal) among the believers, whether near or far, will be equal.

It is narrated from Hazrat Shahr bin Hawshab that he said: Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood and his companions were sitting, and their voices became loud. The narrator said: Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and said, "O Ibn Umm Abd, what are these voices?" He replied, "O Abu Abdullah, they started mentioning Dajjal and we became afraid." Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah, I do not care whether I meet him or the black kid of a goat." Abdul Malik, the narrator, says: He referred to the kid of a goat that was eating date stones in one corner of the mosque. The narrator said: Hazrat Abdullah said to Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him), "Why? What is the virtue from Allah for your father?" Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "We are believers and he is a disbelieving man, and surely Allah the Exalted will grant us help and success against him. And by Allah, he will not emerge until his emergence will be more beloved to a Muslim man than the coolness of a drink in thirst." Hazrat Abdullah asked, "For what reason is there virtue from Allah for your father?" Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "Because of the severity of tribulations and the calamities of evil."

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, met Ibn Sayyad and with him were Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar, or he said two men were with him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" Ibn Sayyad replied: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I believe in Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: "What do you see?" Ibn Sayyad said: "I see the Throne upon water." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "You are seeing the throne of Iblis upon the sea." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: "What do you see?" He said: "I see two truthful ones or two liars." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The matter has become confused for him, the matter has become confused for him, so leave him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Asma that she said: I went to Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and the people were standing in prayer while she was also praying. I asked, "What is the condition of the people?" She pointed towards the sky with her hand or she said "Subhan Allah." I asked, "Is there a sign?" She indicated with her head that yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a long standing (this was on the occasion of the eclipse prayer). I remained standing until I fainted, and I began to pour water over my head. Hazrat Asma said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praised Allah and glorified Him as He deserves, and said: "There is nothing that I have not seen before except that I saw it in my place here, even Paradise and Hell. And it has been revealed to me that you will be tested in your graves, a trial similar to the trial of Dajjal, or he said, close to the trial of Dajjal." The narrator says: I do not know whether Hazrat Asma said "similar" or "close."

It is narrated from Hazrat Haisam bin Aswad that he said: I set out as part of a delegation during the time of Hazrat Muawiyah. There was a man with him on the throne who had a very red face with many wrinkles. Hazrat Muawiyah said to me, "Do you know who this is? This is Abdullah bin Amr." The narrator said: Hazrat Abdullah said to me, "Where are you from?" I replied, "From the people of Iraq." He said, "Do you know the land on your side with much sabakh, which is called Kufa?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "From there the Dajjal will emerge." Then Hazrat Abdullah said, "Indeed, for the wicked people, after the good people, there will be a period of one hundred and twenty years. None among the people knows when its first (year) will begin."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ma’rur bin Suwaid that Hazrat Ka’b said: Among the Arab tribes, the most severe against Dajjal is your tribe—he meant Banu Tamim.

Hazrat Thalabah bin Abad Abdi, who was from the people of Basra, narrates that one day he was present during the sermon of Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub. During his sermon, he narrated a hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: By Allah, the Day of Judgment will not occur until thirty Dajjals appear, the last of whom will be the one-eyed Dajjal. His right eye will be obliterated, as if it is like the eye of Abi Tuhayyi or Abu Yahya, who was an old man among the Ansar. And when he appears, he will claim that he is Allah. Whoever believes in him, affirms him, and follows him, his previous good deeds will not benefit him. And whoever rejects him and denies him, he will not be punished for his previous (bad) deeds. And he will dominate the entire earth except for Masjid al-Haram and Bayt al-Maqdis, and he will prevent the believers from entering Bayt al-Maqdis. He said: Allah Almighty will defeat him and his army until the foundation of a wall or, he said, the root of a tree will call out: O believer, this disbeliever is hiding behind me, come and kill him. And this will not happen until you see such matters that you consider as wolves among yourselves. You will ask each other: Did your Prophet mention anything about this? And until the mountains move from their places. Then after that, there will be a seizure, and he gestured with his hand (by seizure, and Allah knows best, is meant the general death and the occurrence of the Day of Judgment). The narrator said: Then I participated in his other sermon, and he mentioned the same hadith, neither adding nor omitting anything.

It is narrated from Hazrat Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan that he said: Whoever finds matters to be doubtful should not follow the one-eyed, that is, the Dajjal.

It is narrated from Hasan that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The Dajjal will enter the sea up to his knees and will grasp the cloud, and he will reach the place of the sun's setting before the sun itself. And there will be a horn on his forehead from which snakes will emerge. On his body, images of all kinds of weapons will be drawn, to the extent that the sword, spear, and shield are mentioned. He said: I asked, "What is a dirq?" He replied: "A shield."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that he said: The Dajjal will remain on the earth for forty days; he will reach every corner of the earth. Of these forty days, one day will be like a week, a week like a month, and a month like a year. Then he said: What will be your condition when those people will be in light and you will be in darkness, they will be satisfied and you will be hungry, they will be quenched and you will be thirsty.

It is narrated from Hazrat Khaythamah that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud was reciting the Holy Qur'an in the mosque. When he reached this verse: "Like a crop that brings forth its shoot," Hazrat Abdullah said, "You are the crop, and the time for your harvesting has drawn near." Then the people mentioned Dajjal in that gathering. Some said, "We wish that he would appear and we would stone him." Hazrat Abdullah said, "You say this? By Him besides whom there is no deity, if you hear that he is in Babylon, then someone among you will go to him, and he will complain about his feet sinking into the ground because of hastening to reach him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Mugham that he mentioned the Dajjal and said: There is no ambiguity regarding the Dajjal, and I am more concerned about the trials that will occur before the Dajjal than the trial of the Dajjal itself. Surely, there is no ambiguity regarding the Dajjal. Indeed, the Dajjal will call towards such a matter that people will recognize, to the extent that they will see it with their own eyes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Dajjal will emerge to such an extent that his emergence will be more beloved to the Muslims than drinking water in a state of thirst.

It is narrated from Hazrat Fatimah bint Qais that she said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Zuhr prayer one day, then ascended the pulpit. The people considered this unusual; he was among those sitting and those standing (that is, some were sitting and some were standing), and before this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would not sit on the pulpit except on Fridays. He (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to them with his hand to sit down, then said: By Allah, I have not stood here for any matter that would benefit you due to desire or fear, but rather Tamim Dari came to me and informed me, to the extent that because of the joy and coolness to my eyes from this news, I could not rest at noon. Listen carefully: A strong wind overtook Tamim Dari and his cousins at sea, and the wind brought them to an island which they did not recognize. They boarded a nearby boat and reached the island. Suddenly, they saw a black creature, with long eyelashes and much hair. They said to it, "What are you?" The creature replied, "I am Jassasah (the spy)." They said, "Tell us about yourself." It said, "I will neither tell you nor ask you anything, but this is a monastery which you have come near; go into it, for there is a man there who is eager to inform you and for you to inform him." So they went there and approached that man. Suddenly, they saw an old man bound in chains, very restless, with much hair. He said to them, "From which land have you come?" They said, "From Sham (Greater Syria)." That man said, "What is the condition of the Arabs?" They replied, "We are people of Arabia." He said, "What is the condition of the one who has appeared among you?" They said, "He is in a good state. People have opposed him, but Allah has granted him dominance over them. Nowadays, all are united; their God is one and their religion is one." He said, "That is better for them." He asked, "What is the condition of the spring of Nahr?" They said, "They irrigate their fields from it and drink from it in times of thirst." He asked, "What is the condition of the date palms between Amman and Baisan?" They said, "They bear fruit every year." He asked, "What is the condition of the Lake of Tiberias?" They replied, "Its shores are overflowing with water due to its abundance." Then he took three long breaths and said, "Indeed, if I am freed from these chains, I will not leave any land except that I will trample it with these two feet of mine, except for Madinah Munawwarah, for I will not have dominance over it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: At this point, my happiness was complete. This is Taybah (Madinah). By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, there is no narrow or wide path of this Madinah except that there is an angel standing over it with a drawn sword until the Day of Judgment.

It is narrated from Qaboos bin Abi Zubyan that his father told him: We mentioned the Dajjal and asked Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "When will he appear?" He replied, "It will not be hidden from a believer that his right eye will be obliterated, and between his two eyes will be written 'Kafir' (disbeliever)." He spelled out the letters of 'Kafir' before us. We asked, "When will this be?" He said, "When neighbors boast over neighbors, the strong will consume the weak, family ties will be severed, and they will differ among themselves like the difference of these fingers," and he interlaced his fingers and raised them. One of the people said, "O Commander of the Faithful! What do you command us at that time?" He replied, "May your father perish, you will not reach that time." The narrator said, "Then we were pleased."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that he said: The Dajjal will be given power over a man from among the Muslims; he will kill him, then bring him back to life and say, "Am I not your Lord? Do you not see that I give life and cause death?" And that man will be calling out, "O people of Islam! Rather, this wicked disbeliever is the enemy of Allah." And by Allah, after me, he will not be given power over anyone else. The companions of Hazrat Abu Hurairah said: We used to pass by those who taught writing with Hazrat Abu Hurairah, and Hazrat Abu Hurairah would say, "O teacher of writing, gather your boys for me." When he gathered them, he would say, "Tell them to be silent. O nephew! Understand what I am saying to you. If any of you meets Isa ibn Maryam, he is a young man with a bright face and a reddish complexion, then convey my greetings to him from Abu Hurairah." Hazrat Abu Hurairah would not pass by any teacher of writing except that he would say this to his children.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that he said: The Day of Judgment will not be established until the city of Heraclius Caesar is conquered, and the muezzins will call the adhan in it, and wealth will be distributed there by means of shields. Then they will return with a great amount of wealth which people will see. Then a caller will come to them saying: The Dajjal is behind you, present in your homes. So whatever wealth is in their possession, they will throw it away and turn their attention to fighting him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ala bin Shukhair that Hazrat Nuh and the prophets with him used to seek refuge from the tribulation of Dajjal.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud that he said: The night when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken for Isra, he met Ibrahim, Musa, and Isa. They discussed the Day of Resurrection among themselves. They began with Ibrahim and asked him about the Day of Resurrection, but he had no knowledge about it. Then they turned the matter to Isa, who said: Allah Almighty has informed me of events close to its occurrence, but as for its actual occurrence, none knows it except Allah Almighty. He mentioned the emergence of the Dajjal, so I will descend and kill him. Then people will return to their cities. Then Gog and Magog will appear before them; they will come quickly from every high place. They will not pass by any water but will drink it, and they will not pass by anything but will destroy it. (Other people) will flee to me, and I will pray to Allah Almighty, and Allah will cause them to die. The earth will become foul due to their stench. Then (other people) will come to me, and I will pray to Allah Almighty, and Allah will send rain from the sky, which will carry their bodies away and throw them into the sea. Then the mountains will be uprooted, and the earth will become like leather, so that the Day of Resurrection will be as close to people as a pregnant woman who has completed her term, but her family does not know when she will suddenly give birth. Hazrat 'Awwam said: I found its confirmation in the Book of Allah Almighty { حَتَّی إِذَا فُتِحَتْ یَأْجُوجُ وَمَأْجُوجُ وَہُمْ مِنْ کُلِّ حَدَبٍ یَنْسِلُونَ وَاقْتَرَبَ الْوَعْدُ الْحَقُّ }.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: All the prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one. Among the people, I am the closest to Jesus son of Mary, because there is no prophet between me and him. When you see him, know that he is a man of medium height, inclined towards redness and whiteness (in complexion), with light curly hair. It will appear as if drops (of water) are falling from his head, though he will not be wet. He will be between two light yellow-dyed sheets. He will break the cross, kill the swine, abolish the jizya, and fight the people for Islam until Allah destroys all religions in his time except Islam. And Allah will destroy the false messiah, the Dajjal, in his time. In his time, peace will be established on earth to the extent that a black snake will graze with a camel, a leopard with a cow, and a wolf with sheep, and children will play with snakes; none will harm another. He will remain on earth as long as Allah wills, then he will pass away, and the Muslims will offer his funeral prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Wa'il that he said: Most of the followers of Dajjal will be Jews and the offspring of immoral women.

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah that she said: The mother of Ibn Sayyad gave birth to him in such a state that he was cheerful and circumcised.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Umar, he said that on one of the roads of Madinah, I met Ibn Sayyad. He swelled up so much that he blocked the entire path. I said, "Go away! Surely, you cannot exceed what is decreed (by fate)." His (body) parts began to join together, and I passed by.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud that he said: We were walking with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when we passed by some children who were playing. When these children saw the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, they scattered, but Ibn Sayyad remained seated, as if he had angered the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "What is the matter with you? May your hands be dusted! Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), let me kill this wicked one." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Leave him. If he is the one you fear, you will never be able to kill him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah that he said: We lost sight of Ibn Sayyad on the day of Harrah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Ibn Sayyad, "What do you see?" He said, "I see a throne on the sea, around it are snakes." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "This is the throne of Iblis."

It is narrated from Hasan that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Verily, before the Day of Judgment there will be liars; one of them will be from Yamamah (that is, Musaylimah the Liar), and one of them will be Aswad Ansi, and one of them will be from Himyar, and one of them will be the Dajjal, and he is the greatest trial.

It is narrated from Hazrat Majma' bin Jariyah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Dajjal will be killed by Hazrat Isa bin Maryam at the gate of Ludd.
