Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Salih that he said: On the day of Jara‘ah, one of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat with us. The narrator said: Hazrat Uthman bin Affan had sent Hazrat Sa‘id bin ‘As as the governor over Kufa (and the people of Kufa had rejected his governorship). The people of Kufa came out and found that companion. He said: One of them (in front of that companion) said, "We are upon the Sunnah." That companion said: "You are not upon the Sunnah until the rulers and supervisors show kindness and the subjects show goodwill."

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Today, a hole like this has been opened in the wall of Gog and Magog." And Wahb, the narrator, made the number ninety with his hand (according to Ibn al-Athir's statement, its form is such that the tip of the finger next to the thumb is joined to the base of the thumb so that only a small gap remains in between).

Hazrat Abu Hakim, who is the freed slave of Muhammad bin Usama, narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "What will be your condition when neither dinar nor dirham will be obligatory for you?" The noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "When will this happen?" He replied, "When you break your covenant, Allah will harden your hearts against you, thus they will withhold from you."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that surely a time will come upon the people when a man will have donkeys, and riding on them towards Syria will be more beloved to him than any worldly possession.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr that he said: When the one hundred and thirty-sixth year comes and you do not see any sign, then curse me in my grave.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The signs are like pearls threaded in a string; when the string breaks, the pearls fall one after another.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: If a person keeps a horse (for going out) in the way of Allah, and it gives birth to a foal, he will not ride that foal at the time of the first sign among the signs, until he will have seen the last sign as well.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When you see the first sign among the signs, then the others will occur consecutively.

Hazrat Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrates: I heard Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Day of Judgment will not be established until people commit intercourse on the roads like donkeys do.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The time will draw near, knowledge will decrease, miserliness will be cast (into the hearts), tribulations will appear, and 'harj' will increase greatly." The companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what is 'harj'?" He replied, "Killing."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that he said: We went to Hazrat Umar, and he asked, "How is your life?" We replied, "Among those people who fear the Dajjal, we are the most prosperous and flourishing." Hazrat Umar said, "What I fear for you more than the Dajjal is 'harj'." Masruq says, "I asked, 'What is harj?'" He replied, "Killing—to the extent that a man will kill his own father."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, and after me, no one among you will narrate that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Indeed, among the signs of the Day of Judgment is that knowledge will be taken away, ignorance will become apparent, wine will be consumed, and adultery will become widespread. Men will decrease and women will increase in number.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mu'adh that he said: Surely, you will be tested with the trial of hardship, so be patient, and soon you will be tested with the trial of ease. And indeed, of all the things I fear for you, I fear most the trial of women: when they will be adorned with gold bangles and wear fine cloth from Syria, they will exhaust the wealthy and hold the poor responsible for things they do not possess.

It is narrated from Hazrat Usama bin Zaid that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I have not left any trial after me more harmful to men than women."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood that he said: The signs that have been mentioned have passed except for four: the rising of the sun from the west, the emergence of Dajjal, the beast of the earth, and the emergence of Gog and Magog. He said: The sign upon which deeds will come to an end is the rising of the sun from the west. Have you not heard the statement of Allah, the Exalted: "On the day when your Lord's sign comes, faith will not benefit a soul who had not believed before" (up to the end of the Ayah).

It is narrated from Hasan that the Prophet of Allah, Hazrat Musa, asked his Lord to show him that animal. It was said that the animal came out for three days, and not even one side of it was visible. Hasan said that Hazrat Musa submitted, "O my Lord, return it." So it was returned.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: A beast will emerge twice before the Day of Judgment, to the extent that at the time of its emergence, men will be killed. Then it will emerge a third time and will come to the people of the largest mosque among your mosques, at a time when they will be gathered around one man. Then the beast will say: Who has gathered you with the enemy of Allah? The people will hurry, and the beast will mark the disbeliever, to the extent that when two men engage in a transaction, one will say, "Take it, O believer," and the other will say, "Take it, O disbeliever."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr that he said: A beast will emerge from the direction of the Ji'ad mountain during the days of Tashreeq while people will be in Mina. He said: This is the reason why the first among the pilgrims to arrive is prayed for, as he brings the people safely.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr that he said: From the crack of Safa, an animal will emerge, and in the time it takes a horse to run for three days, not even one-third of it will have emerged.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Zar’ah that he said: Three men from among the Muslims were sitting with Marwan bin Hakam. They heard him speaking about the signs, saying that the first sign among the signs is the emergence of Dajjal. Those people went to Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr and related to him what they had heard from Marwan bin Hakam about the signs, that the first sign is the emergence of Dajjal. Hazrat Abdullah said: Marwan has not said anything (correct). I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying that the first sign among the signs to appear will be the rising of the sun from the west or the emergence of the Beast upon the people at forenoon, and whichever of these two signs appears before the other, the other will soon follow it. Then Hazrat Abdullah said: They used to read the books, and I think that the first of these two signs will be the rising of the sun from the west, and this is because whenever it sets, it comes under the Throne and seeks permission to rise again, and it is granted permission to rise again, until when Allah wills that it should rise from the west, it will come under the Throne and prostrate, and will seek permission to return, but it will not be answered. Then it will return and seek permission to return, but it will not be answered. Then it will return and seek permission to return, but it will not be answered, until as much of the night passes as Allah wills, and the sun realizes that if it is given permission, it will not reach the east. Then it will say: O my Lord, how far is the east! The sun will say: O my Lord, who is there for me among the people? Until when the horizon becomes bright, as if it is a collar, it will seek permission to return, and it will be said to it: Your place of rising is obligatory upon you. So it will rise upon the people from the west. Then Hazrat Abdullah recited this verse: “On the day when any sign of your Lord comes, no soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before or had earned some good through its faith.” __QUR_N__

It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: Count everyone who professes Islam. Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We submitted, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), do you fear for us while we are between six hundred and seven hundred? He said: Certainly, you do not know; perhaps you will be tested. The narrator says: We were tested to the extent that none of us could pray except in secret.

Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is nothing between you and the time when evil will always be sent upon you except the death of the man who puts an end to these evils, and he is Hazrat Umar.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I do not recognize anything except the prayer.

It is narrated from Ismail that he said: A certain man who used to sell wheat narrated to us, he said: When Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the province of Baghdad, he went to Hazrat Abu Mas'ud Ansari and greeted him. Hazrat Abu Mas'ud asked, "What is the condition of your sword, O Abu Abdullah?" He replied, "Hazrat Uthman has appointed me as the governor of this province." He said, "O Abu Abdullah, do you fear that this is a tribulation, while the people have expelled Hazrat Sa'id bin Aas?" Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "Do you not know your religion, O Abu Mas'ud?" He replied, "Why not?" Then Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Indeed, the tribulation will not harm you as long as you recognize your religion. The tribulation is only when truth and falsehood become confused for you, and you do not know which of the two to follow. That is the tribulation."

It is narrated from Hazrat Muhammad that indeed among the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), one of them said: None among us is free from temptation except that if I wish, I can say something about him, except for Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Masood: O people! Indeed, this king is being tested through you. If he acts justly, he will have a reward and it will be obligatory upon you to be grateful. And if he acts unjustly, the sin will be upon him and it will be obligatory upon you to be patient.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ati that he said Hazrat Abi said to me: At this place, the people of authority (meaning the rulers) will be destroyed. By the Lord of the Ka'bah, they will be destroyed, and many will be destroyed. By Allah, I do not grieve for them, but I grieve for those from the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) who will be destroyed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon there will be rulers over you; you will enjoin good upon them and forbid them from evil. Whoever rejects (their evil) will be absolved, and whoever dislikes (their evil) will also be safe. But the one who is pleased with it and follows them (will not be absolved). The companions said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), should we not fight against them? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, as long as they establish the prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that he said: A woman will be seized and her abdomen will be ripped open, and out of fear for her offspring, the fetus present in her womb will be cast out.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that he said: Destruction is for the one who will be separated, by Allah, just as the leg of an animal is separated. And destruction is for the one who will be removed, like the removal of a kid goat.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ma'qil bin Yasar that he said: The Messenger of Allah said, "Worship during times of tribulation is like migrating to me."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ahnaf bin Qais that he said: I was sitting in the mosque of Madinah when a man came and said that none of the people sitting in the circles would see him except that they would run away from him, until he came to the circle in which I was. So I remained seated and the other people ran away. I asked, "Who are you?" He replied, "Abu Dharr, a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." I asked, "Why do people run away from you?" He said, "Because I stop them from accumulating treasures." Hazrat Ahnaf bin Qais says: I said, "Indeed, our grants have reached a large number and have become elevated. Do you fear for us because of them?" He replied, "Not at this time, but soon they will become the price of your religion. At that time, avoid these grants."

Hazrat Muawiyah bin Thalabah narrates: I came to Muhammad bin Hanafiyyah and said, "Indeed, Mukhtar's messengers have come to us and kept inviting us." The narrator said: He (Muhammad bin Hanafiyyah) said to me, "Do not fight, for I dislike being the worst among this Ummah," or he said, "I should go to them upon a way other than theirs."

Hazrat Zubair bin Adi said: Ibrahim said to me, "Protect yourself from being killed along with the turmoil (fitnah)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Wa'il that Hazrat Abu Musa and Abu Mas'ud came to Hazrat Ammar while he was calling people to fight. Both of them said, "Since you accepted Islam, we have not seen anything more disliked from you than this matter—your hastiness in this affair." In response, Hazrat Ammar said, "Since you accepted Islam, I have not seen anything more disliked from you in my view than your laziness in this matter." The narrator states that Hazrat Ammar gave each of them a set of clothes to wear.

Hazrat Harith bin Hubaysh Asadi said: Hazrat Saeed bin Aas gave me some gifts and sent me to the people of Madinah, and he gave preference to Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in the gifts. The narrator said: Hazrat Saeed bin Aas said to me, "Say to him: Your cousin sends you greetings and says, 'I have not sent more to anyone than I have sent to you, except for what is in the treasury of the Commander of the Faithful.'" Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The thing that grieves me the most is the inheritance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Otherwise, if I were to possess it, I would shake it off like shaking dust off a piece of liver meat."

Hazrat Ameela narrates from Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood that he said: Hazrat Ibn Masood used to say to us during the caliphate of Hazrat Umar, "Surely, there will soon be tribulations, tribulations, and it will be sufficient for a person that when he sees something disliked, he dislikes it, so that Allah the Exalted knows that indeed he is one who dislikes that matter."

It is narrated from Hazrat Tawoos that he said: I asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), "Should I stop my leader from disobedience?" He replied, "No, there will be discord." Tawoos said: I submitted, "What if he commands me to commit a sin?" He said, "At that time (you can stop him)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair that he said: A man asked Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), "Should I enjoin good upon my leader?" He replied, "If you must enjoin good (amr bil ma'ruf), then do so between yourself and him (privately)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that he said: When you go to a believer who is a leader, do not advise him in front of the people.
