Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated to me that "she was married to Abu Amr bin Hafs bin al-Mughirah, and he gave her the third and final divorce. She stated that she came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him for a ruling about leaving her house, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her, she stated, to move to the house of Ibn Umm Maktum, the blind man." "But Marwan insisted on regarding Fatimah's hadith about the divorced woman leaving her house as doubtful."

Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) that Abu Amr bin Hafs divorced her irrevocably while he himself was away. He sent his agent with some barley, and she was displeased with it. He said: "By Allah, you have no claim on us at all." So she came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are not entitled to maintenance." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her to spend her waiting period ('iddah) in the house of Umm Sharik, and then he said: "She is a woman whom my Companions visit frequently. Spend your waiting period in the house of Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is a blind man; you can take off your outer garments. When your waiting period is over, inform me." Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When my waiting period was over, I mentioned to him (peace and blessings be upon him) that Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan and Abu Jahm bin Hudhayfah had proposed marriage to me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for Abu Jahm, he does not put his stick down from his shoulder; and as for Mu'awiyah, he is poor and has no wealth. Marry Usamah bin Zayd." Fatimah said: I disliked it. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said again: "Marry Usamah bin Zayd." So Allah placed good in it for me, and I came to be envied (because of this marriage).

Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman and Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Thawban (may Allah have mercy on them both) narrate from Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her); she said: My husband divorced me, and he (my former husband) used to send me some poor food. I was a woman who had no one to support her, so I said: "By Allah, if maintenance is my right, I will certainly claim it." So I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are entitled to neither maintenance nor housing. Spend your waiting period at the house of Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind, and when your waiting period is over, inform me." When my waiting period was over, I informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who has proposed to you?" I said: "Mu'awiyah and another man." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for Mu'awiyah, he is one of the young men of Quraysh and has no wealth; and as for the other, he is a man of evil. Marry Usamah bin Zayd." I disliked it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Marry him." So I married him.
