حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ قَيْسٍ، أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَحْتَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي مَخْزُومٍ فَطَلَّقَهَا ألْبَتَّةَ، فَأَرْسَلَتْ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ تَبْتَغِي النَّفَقَةَ، فَقَالُوا: لَيْسَتْ عَلَيْنَا نَفَقَةٌ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «لَيْسَتْ لَكِ عَلَيْهِمْ نَفَقَةٌ، وَعَلَيْكِ الْعِدَّةُ فَانْتَقِلِي إِلَى أُمِّ شَرِيكٍ» ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِنَّ أُمَّ شَرِيكٍ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهَا إِخْوَانُهَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، لَا وَلَكِنِ انْتَقِلِي إِلَى ابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ، فَإِنَّهُ رَجُلٌ أَعْمَى، إِنْ وَضَعْتِ ثِيَابَكِ لَمْ يَرَ شَيْئًا، وَلَا تُفَوِّتِينَا بِنَفْسِكِ» فَلَمَّا حَلَّتْ ذَكَرَتْ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، وَأَبَا جَهْمٍ خَطَبَاهَا، فَقَالَ: «أَمَّا مُعَاوِيَةُ فَلَا مَالَ لَهُ، وَأَمَّا أَبَا جَهْمٍ فَلَا يَضَعُ عَصَاهُ عَنْ عَاتِقِهِ، فَأَيْنَ أَنْتِ مِنْ أُسَامَةَ؟» فَكَأَنَّ أَهْلَهَا كَرِهُوا ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَتْ: وَاللهِ مَا أَنْكِحُ إِلَّا مَا قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَكَحَتْهُ
Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) that she was married to a man of Banu Makhzum, and he divorced her irrevocably. She sent word to his family seeking maintenance, and they said: "We owe no maintenance." This reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have no maintenance due from them, and you must observe the waiting period; move to the house of Umm Sharik." Then he said: "Her brothers from among the Muhajirun visit Umm Sharik. No; rather, move to the house of Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is a blind man; if you take off your outer garments he will not see anything. And do not decide about yourself without us." When her waiting period was over, she mentioned that Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan and Abu Jahm had proposed to her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for Mu'awiyah, he has no wealth; and as for Abu Jahm, he does not put his stick down from his shoulder. So why do you not consider Usamah?" It was as if her family disliked that, but she said: "By Allah, I will marry only the one whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told me to." So she married him.
