It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I was given qualities that were not given to any other woman: he (peace and blessings be upon him) married me when I was six years old; and the angel came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) with my image in his palm, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at it. And the marriage was consummated when I was nine years old. And I saw Jibril (peace be upon him), while no woman other than me saw him. And I was the most beloved of his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives to him, and my father was the most beloved of his (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions to him. And during the illness in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, no one other than me and the angels was present with him.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I was given seven things that were not given to any other wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): I was among the people most beloved to him (peace and blessings be upon him) for my own sake, and also among the people most beloved to him for the sake of my father. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me as a virgin, and he did not marry any virgin other than me. And when Jibril (peace be upon him) came down to him (peace and blessings be upon him) with revelation, I would be with him (peace and blessings be upon him) under the same cover, and this was not done with anyone else. And my share was two days and two nights, while the share of his (peace and blessings be upon him) other wives was one day and one night. And my exoneration was revealed from the heavens, in a matter over which a group of people nearly perished because of me. And the soul of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken while he was between my chest and my neck.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: There are seven qualities in me that were not found in any woman except what Allah gave Maryam bint Imran (peace be upon her). By Allah, I do not say this to boast over any of my companions. At that, Abdullah bin Safwan asked: O Mother of the Believers, what are they? She said: The angel came down with my image; and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me at the age of seven, and I was sent to him as a bride at the age of nine. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) married me as a virgin, and no one else shared me with him. And revelation would come to him (peace and blessings be upon him) while he and I were under one cover. And I was the most beloved of people to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and the daughter of the one who was most beloved of people to him (peace and blessings be upon him). And verses of the Qur'an were revealed concerning me. And the Ummah nearly perished because of me. And I saw Jibril (peace be upon him), while none of his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives other than me saw him. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in my house, and no one attended to him (peace and blessings be upon him) other than me and the angel.

Abu Amr Dhakwan, the freed slave of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), related that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Among the favours Allah bestowed upon me is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in my house, on my day, and between my chest and my neck, and that Allah joined my saliva with his (peace and blessings be upon him) saliva at the time of death. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: My brother Abd al-Rahman came in to me while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was leaning against my chest, and he had a miswak in his hand. He (peace and blessings be upon him) began to look at the miswak, so I said: Shall I take it for you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) nodded his head to indicate yes. I softened it and gave it to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed it over his teeth. In front of him (peace and blessings be upon him) was a vessel, or she said: a bowl, containing water. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would put his hand into it and then wipe his face with it, saying: "There is none worthy of worship except Allah; indeed, death has its agonies." Then he would pour water over his hand, and then say: "With the Highest Companion," until his (peace and blessings be upon him) soul was taken and his (peace and blessings be upon him) hand fell limp.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: Among Allah's favours upon me and His good trial of me is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in my house and on my day, and his (peace and blessings be upon him) soul was taken between my chest and my neck, and on the day he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away my saliva and his (peace and blessings be upon him) saliva were joined. The narrator said: I asked her: That much concerns your house, your day, and your chest and neck, but how were your saliva and his saliva joined? She said: On Monday morning Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr came in to me with a fresh miswak in his hand. I saw that the gaze of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was fixed on it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was very fond of the miswak. I said: Split it and give it to me. He split it into two and gave it to me, so I chewed it to soften it, then put it into the mouth of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) cleaned his teeth with it, and in this way my saliva and his (peace and blessings be upon him) saliva were joined.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) related: On that day, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the mosque, he (peace and blessings be upon him) felt pain and lay down in my lap. Then a man from the family of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came in to me with a green (fresh) miswak in his hand. She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked (intently) at his hand, and I knew that he (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted it, so I said: O Messenger of Allah, would you like me to give you this miswak? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." I took it and chewed it for him (peace and blessings be upon him) until I had softened it, then gave it to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) cleaned his teeth with it more vigorously than I had ever seen him (peace and blessings be upon him) use a miswak before. Then he put it down. After that I felt the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) growing heavy in my lap, so I looked at his (peace and blessings be upon him) face, and his (peace and blessings be upon him) gaze had become fixed, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: "Rather, the Highest Companion of Paradise." So I said: By the One who sent you with the truth, you were given the choice and you chose (it). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) related: At the time of his passing, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was resting his back against me. Just then Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) came in with a miswak in his hand, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for that miswak. I took it and softened it, then gave it to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) began to clean his teeth with it. Then his (peace and blessings be upon him) hand grew heavy and he became a weight upon me, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: "O Allah, with the Highest Companion." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was between my chest and my neck.

She said: My brother Abd al-Rahman came in to me with a miswak, and the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had grown weak, so I took that miswak and chewed it, then cleaned his (peace and blessings be upon him) teeth with it.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away between my chin and my throat (in my embrace), so I will never again dislike the severity of death for anyone, after I saw how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was passing away. He (peace and blessings be upon him) had a bowl of water beside him; he (peace and blessings be upon him) would put his hand into the bowl and wipe water over his face, and say: "O Allah, help me through the agonies of death."
