It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! What is charity? He said: "A reward multiplied many times over, and with Allah there is even more." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan so that He may multiply it for him many times over?" [Surah al-Baqarah: 245].
He said: O Messenger of Allah! Which charity is the best? He said: "Charity given secretly to a needy person, or charity that comes from the effort of one who has little," then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "If you disclose your charities, that is good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, that is better for you" [Surah al-Baqarah: 271].

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him): One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting among a group of his Companions. He (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hand and said: "Who will pledge allegiance to me?" He said it three times, but no one stood up except Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! We pledged allegiance to you once, and now I pledge allegiance to you a second time. So, O Messenger of Allah, on what shall I pledge allegiance to you? He said: "On the condition that you will not ask people for anything, and for you is Paradise." He said: O Messenger of Allah! If I pledge allegiance to you and do not ask people for anything, will I have Paradise? He said: "Yes, if Allah wills." He said: No, by the One who sent you with the truth! As long as I remain in this world, I will not ask anyone for anything.

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whenever I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and was close to him, I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say at the end of every prayer: "O Allah, forgive me all my sins and wrongdoings. O Allah, revive me and protect me, and guide me to good deeds and good character, for none but You guides to their good, and none but You turns their evil away from me."
Hadith Referenceالمعجم الكبير للطبراني / باب الصاد / 7862
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: These are words that I memorised from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "The abundance of wealth will only keep increasing, miserliness among people will only keep increasing, matters will only keep growing harsher, and the Hour will be established only upon the worst of people."
Hadith Referenceالمعجم الكبير للطبراني / باب الصاد / 7863
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with them) were present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) along with a few of his companions, when a cup containing a drink was brought. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the cup to Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah, and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Prophet of Allah! You are more entitled to it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take it. So Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah took the cup, then, before drinking, said to him: O Prophet of Allah! You take it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Drink, for blessing lies with our elders. Whoever does not show mercy to our young and does not honour our elders is not one of us."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril came to me and placed his two hands, one on my chest and the other between my shoulders, until I felt the coolness of the hand that was on my chest between my shoulders, and of the one that was between my shoulders in my chest. Then he said: O Muhammad! Declare the greatness (say Allahu Akbar), declare the oneness with certainty (say La ilaha illallah), and say: Glory be to the Lord of the first and the last."
Hadith Referenceالمعجم الكبير للطبراني / باب الصاد / 7865
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Prepare to go to this town whose people are oppressors" (meaning Khaybar) "for Allah, if He wills, is going to grant you victory over it. And let no one weak, or weakened, come out with me." So Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to his mother and said: Prepare me (for the journey), for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has ordered us to prepare for the expedition. She said: You will go and leave me? Yet I know that I do not even go to the place of relieving myself except with you. He said: I cannot stay behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So she bared her breast and adjured him by the milk he had drunk from her. And she herself went secretly to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go, your matter has been taken care of." Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him. He said: O Messenger of Allah! I see that you have turned away from me, and I think it is because of something that has reached you. He said: "You are the one whose mother adjured you, and she bared her breast and adjured you by the milk you drank from her, but you did not heed her. Does any of you think that when he is serving his parents, or one of them, he is not in the path of Allah? Indeed, he is in the path of Allah when he is dutiful to them and fulfils their rights." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "After that I did not go on any expedition for two years, until she passed away." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah at night, and a young man of Banu Amir set off with them riding his unruly camel. As he was riding along, the camel shied away from the road and the people, and his camel fell into a pit. He called out: O people of Amir! Then he and his camel fell to the ground, and his people came and carried him away. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept travelling until he reached Khaybar and encamped there. Then he called Sayyiduna Tufayl bin Amir bin al-Harith al-Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Go to your people and seek their help against the oppressive people of this town, for Allah, if He wills, will grant you victory over it." Sayyiduna Tufayl said: O Messenger of Allah! You are sending me away from you. By Allah, dying while I am near you is dearer to me than living while I am far from you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is inevitable is inevitable." So he set off and said: O Messenger of Allah! Perhaps I will not meet you again, so give me some advice by which I can live. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have control over your tongue?" He said: If I do not have control over my tongue, then what will I have control over? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have control over your hand?" He said: If I do not have control over my hands, then what will I have control over? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then do not say anything with your tongue except what is good, and do not extend your hand towards anything except good." The narrator Ibn Abi Karimah said: I found in Abu Abd al-Rahim's own handwriting, within this hadith, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said to him: "Spread the greeting of peace, give food, be shy before Allah as you are shy before a dignified man of your own family, keep your character good, and if you commit an evil deed, then do a good deed after it, for good deeds wipe out evil deeds."

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyiduna Ibrahim (his son (peace and blessings be upon him)) passed away and his (peace and blessings be upon him) eyes were shedding tears. He said: O Prophet of Allah! You weep over this child? By the One who sent you with the truth! In the Days of Ignorance I buried twelve children, each of whom was more worthy of grief than him; I used to bury all of them alive in the earth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That was only because mercy had departed from you. The heart grieves and the eye sheds tears over Ibrahim, but we do not say what angers the Lord, and we are indeed grieved over Ibrahim."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When Allah intends good for a servant, He purifies him before his death." It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever fasts one day in the path of Allah, Allah will distance him from Hell by the distance of a hundred years' gallop of a swift, trained horseman."
Hadith Referenceالمعجم الكبير للطبراني / باب الصاد / 7871
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A foul-tongued woman, well known for this habit, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while there was some dried meat in front of him (peace and blessings be upon him) which he (peace and blessings be upon him) was eating. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took a piece of dried meat that had sinew in it and put it in his mouth, chewing it sometimes on this side and sometimes on the other. The woman said: O Prophet of Allah! Will you not feed me? He said: "Of course." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her some of what was in front of him. She said: No, only what is in your mouth. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) took it out and gave it to her. She took it, put it in her mouth and kept chewing it until she swallowed it. After that incident, the foul-tongued sharpness that she used to have was never again known of that woman.
