حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ الْحَذَّاءِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ: بَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ، وَأَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ إِذْ أُتِيَ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ شَرَابٌ، فَنَاوَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ، فَقَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ: أَنْتَ أَوْلَى بِهِ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ. قَالَ: خُذْ فَأَخَذَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ الْقَدَحَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ: يَشْرَبَ خُذْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اشْرَبْ، فَإِنَّ الْبَرَكَةَ فِي أَكَابِرِنَا، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا، وَيُجِلَّ كَبِيرَنَا فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا»
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with them) were present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) along with a few of his companions, when a cup containing a drink was brought. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the cup to Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah, and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Prophet of Allah! You are more entitled to it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take it. So Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah took the cup, then, before drinking, said to him: O Prophet of Allah! You take it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Drink, for blessing lies with our elders. Whoever does not show mercy to our young and does not honour our elders is not one of us."
