Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me to say in the witr: "O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being, take me as Your friend among those You have taken as friends, bless me in what You have given me, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed; for indeed You decree and none can decree against You. The one whom You befriend is never humiliated, and the one whom You take as an enemy is never honoured. Blessed are You and Exalted."

Abu al-Hawra' said: I said to Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both): What were you like in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? And what did you understand and retain from him? He said: I retained from him that I heard him say: "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt, for evil is doubt and good is tranquillity." And I retained from him the five prayers, and a few words which I say at their conclusion. He said: "Say: O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being, take me as Your friend among those You have taken as friends, bless me in what You have given me, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed; for indeed You decree and none can decree against You. Abu al-Hawra' (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I said to Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): What do you remember of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: I remember of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that I took a date from the dates of sadaqah (charity) and put it in my mouth, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took it out with its saliva and put it back among the dates. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what harm would this one date have done to this child? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sadaqah is not lawful for us, the family of Muhammad."

Abu al-Hawra' (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I said to Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): What were you like on the day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away? And what do you remember of him? He said: I remember of him that a man came to him one day and asked him about something, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt, for evil is doubt and good is tranquillity." And I also remember that one day I passed by him when in front of him was one of the heaps of the dates of sadaqah. I took a date and put it in my mouth, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) seized me by the nape of my neck, then put his hand into my mouth and took it out with its saliva, then threw it back onto the heap. His Companions said to him: If only you had left the boy to eat it! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sadaqah is not lawful for the family of Muhammad." The narrator said: And he (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me a few words which I supplicate with at the end of the qunut: "O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, take me as Your friend among those You have taken as friends, grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being, bless me in what You have given me, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed; for indeed You decree and none can decree against You, and the one whom You befriend is never humiliated.
