Abu Jahl bin Hisham said: "Rather, stay as (harsh) against him as you have been." At this, al-Harith bin Amir bin Nawfal said: "By Allah, the affair of Muhammad will always prevail, whether you begin it or conceal it."
Abu Yusuf said: Al-Harith was killed on the Day of Badr in a state of disbelief.
Hadith Referenceالمعجم الكبير للطبراني / باب الجيم / 1518
Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Abu Jahl bin Hisham, when he came to Makkah returning from (the encounter with) Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him), said: O people of Quraysh! Muhammad has settled in Yathrib and has sent out his scouts, and he wants to strike at you, so beware of passing along his route or going near him, for he is like a ravenous lion. He is furious with you because you drove him out, as ticks are driven off the camels' hooves. By Allah, he has sorcerers with him; whenever I have seen him or any of his companions, I have seen devils with them. And you know the enmity of the two sons of Qaylah (Aws and Khazraj); so he is an enemy who has sought the help of another enemy. At this, Mut'im bin Adi said to him: O Abu al-Hakam! By Allah, I have never seen anyone more truthful of tongue or more true to his promise than this brother of yours whom you have driven out. Since you have done what you have done, now restrain your hands from him more than anyone. Then Abu Sufyan bin al-Harith said: Increase your harshness against him, for if the two sons of Qaylah prevail over you, they will respect neither kinship nor covenant with you; and if you give me (your support), I will deliver to them the news of Kinanah, or else they will expel Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) from among them, and he will be left alone and cast out. As for the two sons of Qaylah, by Allah, they and the people of Dahlak are equal in humiliation, and I will suffice you against their edge. And he recited these verses:
I will show a harsh side of myself, whether there has been nearness or distance.
The Khazraji men are people of humiliation, when earnestness comes after jest.
This reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, I will surely kill them, I will surely crucify them, and I will surely guide them even though they dislike it. Indeed, I am a mercy; Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has sent me, and He will not take my soul until Allah makes His religion prevail. I have five names: I am Muhammad, and Ahmad, I am al-Mahi (the Eraser), through whom Allah erases disbelief, I am al-Hashir (the Gatherer); the people will be gathered at my hands, and I am al-'Aqib (the Last)." Ahmad bin Salih said: I hope that this hadith is sahih (authentic).
