Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a dead goat which its owners had thrown away. He said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, the world is more worthless to Allah Almighty than this, that is, the goat, is to its owners."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Mus'ab, who has been declared trustworthy despite his weakness, and the remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a mangy young goat which its owners had put out. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you think that this (goat) is worthless to its owners?" The people said: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The world is more worthless to Allah Almighty than this (goat) is to its owners."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abu al-Muhazzim, whom the majority declared da'if (weak), and the remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rabi'ah al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey. Meanwhile he heard the voice of a caller to prayer (mu'adhdhin) who was saying: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I too bear witness that there is no god but Allah." The mu'adhdhin said: "I bear witness that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I too bear witness that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will find him to be either a shepherd or someone who is away from his family." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) descended into the valley, he found a dead goat that had been thrown away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you think that this is worthless to its owners? The world is more worthless to Allah Almighty than this (goat) is to its owners."

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the refuse heap of a people where there was a dead goat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Would its owners not have any need of it?" The people said: "O Messenger of Allah, had its owners needed it, they would not have thrown it away." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah, the world is more worthless to Allah Almighty than this goat is to its owners, and let me never find it (that is, the world) in a state where it has brought ruin upon any of you."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was going out, and some of his Companions were with him. He was passing along one of the roads of Madinah, and he passed by the outer courtyard of someone's house, where those people had thrown out a dead goat of theirs. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped by it and looked at it. Then he turned to his Companions and asked: "Do you think that this is worthless to its owners, which is why they have thrown it away?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah, the world is more worthless to Allah than this goat is to its owners, as they threw it away."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in this way in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, the world is indeed more worthless to Allah Almighty than this goat is to its owners. If the world were worth the weight of a mustard seed to Allah Almighty, He would have given it only to His friends (awliya') and His beloved servants among His creation."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Yahya bin Abdullah al-Babulti, who is da'if (weak).
