Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 18074

Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws al-Fihri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "By Allah, the world, from its beginning to its end, compared to the Hereafter is like someone dipping his finger into the sea and then looking at what it comes back with (that is, how much of the sea's water has clung to it)." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is mentioned in the Sahih, but without these words: "from its beginning to its end," nor (are) these words (there): "By Allah." Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ahmad bin Mu'awiyah, who is da'if (weak).
