Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The decree of Allah Almighty concerning the believer pleases me: if good comes to that believer, he praises his Lord and gives thanks, and if some calamity befalls him, he praises his Lord and is patient. The believer is rewarded in every situation."
Ahmad recorded it with several chains, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and he added these words: "The believer is rewarded in every matter, even in his food, the morsel he raises to his mouth (that is, he is rewarded for that too)."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and he narrated these words: "He is rewarded in every matter, even for the morsel he raises to his wife's mouth." The narrators of Ahmad's chains are the narrators of the Sahih, and so are some of al-Bazzar's chains.

Sayyiduna al-Aswad bin Sari' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have composed some words about my Lord and some words in praise of you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for your Lord, He loves praise (madh)." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Then after this the narrator mentioned the full hadith, which has already passed in full earlier in the Book of Etiquette (al-Adab). Ahmad recorded the complete narration, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar; in al-Tabarani's narration, instead of the word "madh", the words are: "Indeed, your Lord loves praise (hamd)." The narrators of one of Ahmad's chains are the narrators of the Sahih.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to him, saying: "Wa alaykum al-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh (and upon you be peace, the mercy of Allah and His blessings)." When the man sat down, he recited these words:
'Alhamdulillahi hamdan kathiran tayyiban mubarakan fihi, kama yuhibbu rabbuna an yuhmada wa yanbaghi lahu' "All praise belongs to Allah alone, praise that is abundant, pure and full of blessing, such praise as our Lord loves to be praised with, and as befits His majesty."
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "What did you say?" He repeated before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what he had recited earlier. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, ten angels rushed towards it, each of them eager to record it, but they did not understand how to write it, until they took it up to the Lord of Might, and the Lord said: 'Record it just as My servant has said it.'"
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded from this Companion a narration about the supplication recited at the opening of the prayer, which is other than this one and shorter than it.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever recites these words:
'Alhamdulillahi qabla kulli ahadin, walhamdulillahi ba'da kulli ahadin, walhamdulillahi ala kulli hal'
"All praise belongs to Allah alone, who was before everyone; all praise belongs to Allah alone, who will be after everyone; and all praise belongs to Allah alone in every condition."
(The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) That person will receive as much reward as the worship of one who has worshipped Allah Almighty."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) relates about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) descended upon him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), if you wish to worship Allah Almighty for one night as is His due, then recite:
'Allahumma laka al-hamdu hamdan khalidan ma'a khuludika, wa laka al-hamdu hamdan da'iman la muntaha lahu duna mashi'atika, wa inda kulli tarfati aynin wa tanaffusi nafsin'
"O Allah, praise belongs to You alone, praise that lasts forever along with Your everlastingness; and praise belongs to You alone, everlasting praise that has no end short of Your will, and (that praise) at every blink of an eye and every breath taken."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Ali bin al-Salt, whom I do not know, and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Some hadith related to praise have already passed in the chapter comprising glorification and praise (tasbih and tahmid), which came four chapters before this one.
