Sayyiduna al-Aswad bin Sari' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have composed some words about my Lord and some words in praise of you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for your Lord, He loves praise (madh)." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Then after this the narrator mentioned the full hadith, which has already passed in full earlier in the Book of Etiquette (al-Adab). Ahmad recorded the complete narration, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar; in al-Tabarani's narration, instead of the word "madh", the words are: "Indeed, your Lord loves praise (hamd)." The narrators of one of Ahmad's chains are the narrators of the Sahih.
