Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) states: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, I was eleven years old at that time.

Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me permission (to take part in the fighting) on the occasion of the Battle of the Trench, and he gave me a Coptic (garment) to wear.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Isma'il bin Qays bin Sa'd bin Zayd, and he is da'if (weak).

Imam al-Sha'bi states: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said four takbirs in the funeral prayer of his mother. Then his mount was brought, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) held his stirrup. Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Leave it." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "This is how we treat our senior scholars."

Yahya bin Sa'id states: On the death of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Today the great scholar of this Ummah has died, and Allah Almighty will make Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) his successor."

(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Earlier, in the chapter on the departure of knowledge, the words of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) have already passed, which he spoke on the death of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him).

Yahya bin Bukayr states: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in 45 AH at the age of 56. Some people say that he passed away in 48 AH at the age of 59, because when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission on the occasion of the Battle of the Trench, he was fifteen years old at that time, and the Battle of the Trench took place in the month of Shawwal in 4 AH. There is disagreement about the year of the death of Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him).
