عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : كَانَتْ مَنْزِلَةُ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَنْزِلَةَ صَاحِبِ الشُّرْطَةِ مِنَ الْأَمِيرِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) stood in the same relation to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as the chief of police stands to the governor.

وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : لَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَكَّةَ ، كَانَ قَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ فِي مُقَدِّمَتِهِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ بِمَنْزِلَةِ صَاحِبِ الشُّرْطَةِ ، فَكُلِّمَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي قَيْسٍ أَنْ يَصْرِفَهُ عَنِ الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي وَضَعَهُ بِهِ ; مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ ، فَصَرَفَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) states: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah, Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) was in the vanguard ahead of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), just as a chief of police would be. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was advised regarding Sayyiduna Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) that he should be removed from the position he was in, out of fear that he might advance against something. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) removed him from that position.
