Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 15852

Yahya bin Sa'id states: On the death of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Today the great scholar of this Ummah has died, and Allah Almighty will make Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) his successor."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that Yahya bin Sa'id al-Ansari did not hear from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Earlier, in the chapter on the departure of knowledge, the words of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) have already passed, which he spoke on the death of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him).
