Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not boast about your forefathers who died in the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance). By the One in whose hand is my soul, what the ju'al (a kind of insect or bird) rolls along with its nostrils is better than those forefathers of yours who died in the Jahiliyyah."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir with similar wording, except that he said: "What the ju'lan (a kind of bird or insect) roll along with their noses is better than them." The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), two men boasted of their lineage against one another. One of them said: "I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so; who are you, may you have no mother?" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the time of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), two men boasted of their lineage. One of them said: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so,' until he counted nine of his forefathers, (and then said:) 'Who are you, may you have no mother?' The other replied: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, son of Islam.'" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then Allah Almighty revealed to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him): 'These are two men who have boasted of their lineage against one another. As for you who traced your lineage to those nine who are in Hell, you will be the tenth of them; and as for you who traced your lineage to two who are in Paradise, you will be the third of them in Paradise.'"
Abdullah bin Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abi al-Ja'd, who is thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the time of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), two men from the Children of Israel stated their lineage before one another; one of them was a Muslim and the other a polytheist. The polytheist, stating his lineage, said: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so,' until he had named nine of his forefathers. Then he said to the other: 'State your lineage, may you have no mother.' He said: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and I disown whatever lies beyond that.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) had an announcement made among the people and gathered them, and then said: 'As for you, the one who traced his lineage back to nine forefathers, you will complete their number as the tenth in Hell; and as for you, the one who traced his lineage back to two forefathers, you are a man from the people of Islam.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and Ahmad recorded it as mawquf (a statement of Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) himself). The narrators of one of al-Tabarani's chains are the narrators of the Sahih, and so are the narrators of Ahmad.

Hisham bin Urwah narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) when the nobility of the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era) was mentioned in his presence. He said: "Leave this, for Islam has made flourish houses that were obscure, and has made obscure houses that used to flourish. If you refuse (to accept this), then when the man from Banu Tamim bin Jud'an died, people divided the glory among themselves after him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ibn Abi al-Zinad, who is da'if (weak).
