وَعَنْ أَبِي رَيْحَانَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَنِ انْتَسَبَ إِلَى تِسْعَةِ آبَاءٍ كُفَّارٍ ، يُرِيدُ بِهِمْ عِزًّا وَكَرَامَةً ، فَهُوَ عَاشِرُهُمْ فِي النَّارِ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ وَأَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever traces his lineage to nine disbelieving forefathers (that is, cites his descent through them), seeking honour and esteem through them, will be the tenth of them in Hell."
Ahmad, al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and Abu Ya'la recorded it. The narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
