Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: This verse was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Your wives are a tilth for you." So this was a concession regarding intercourse in the rear passage.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from his shaykh Ali bin Sa'id bin Bashir, who is a hafiz; al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) said about him: He is not of that standing. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I am ruined." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What has ruined you?" He said: "Last night I turned my saddle around." (Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me no reply. The narrator says: Then Allah revealed this to His Messenger: "Your wives are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth however you wish." (The narrator says: It means) that you may come from the front or come from behind, but beware of the state of menstruation and of the rear passage.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: This verse was revealed: "Your wives are a tilth for you." It was revealed concerning some people from the Ansar who came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You may go to her in any position, provided the intercourse is in the front passage."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Rishdin bin Sa'd, who is da'if (weak). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Some hadiths of this kind have already passed in the chapter on marriage.

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this statement of Allah Almighty, (Allah Almighty says:) "They ask you about menstruation; say: It is a harm, so keep away from women during menstruation." The people related that the Jews say: Whoever has intercourse with his wife from behind, his child will be cross-eyed. So the women of the Ansar would not let their husbands have intercourse with them from behind. They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him whether a man may have intercourse with his wife while she is menstruating, so Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "They ask you about menstruation; say: It is a harm, so keep away from women during menstruation, and do not approach them until they become pure (the narrator says: that is, until they reach the state of purity), and when they have purified themselves (the narrator says: that is, when they have taken the ritual bath), then come to them in the manner Allah has permitted you. Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves thoroughly. Your women are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth however you wish." (The narrator narrates:) The tilth means the place from which childbirth is possible.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Muslim recorded this narration in abridged form.
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ubaydullah bin Yazid al-Qurdawani, from whom no one other than his son has narrated; the rest of its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
