It is reported about Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was with Ziyad when a man came and gave testimony, then changed his testimony. Ziyad said: "I will certainly have your tongue cut off." Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Shall I not tell you a hadith that I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Allah Almighty says: 'Do not mutilate My servants.'" The narrator says: So Ziyad let him go.
Ahmad recorded it. In a report of this Companion recorded by al-Tabarani, he says: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Do not mutilate the servants of Allah." The chains of both reports contain Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who had become confused (ikhtilat).

Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade mutilation.
Ahmad recorded it from a man from among the descendants of Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him), and through him it is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him). In al-Tabarani it is stated that
this report is narrated from al-Mughirah, the daughter's son of Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him). He narrates: Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by al-Hirah, where some people had set up a fox as a target and were shooting at it. Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood by them and said: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid mutilation." If al-Mughirah, the daughter's son of Sayyiduna al-Mughirah, means al-Mughirah bin Abdullah al-Yashkuri, then he is thiqah (trustworthy); and if it is someone else, then I do not know him. The hadith of Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed in the chapter on oaths and vows.

And if I die because of this blow of his, then you too strike him a single blow, and do not mutilate him, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid mutilation, even if it be of a rabid dog." This complete report will come in the chapter on the virtues of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
