Isma'il bin Rashid says: In the account of Ibn Muljam (may Allah curse him and his companions) there is this, in which the narrator mentioned the full report concerning the death and killing of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). In it the narrator says: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Imam Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him): "If I survive, I will see what my opinion is about him (as to what it turns out to be). And if I die because of this blow of his, then you too strike him a single blow, and do not mutilate him, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid mutilation, even if it be of a rabid dog." This complete report will come in the chapter on the virtues of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is munqati' (broken).
