Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: On the day of Badr, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the bodies of those men who had been thrown into the well, namely Utbah, Abu Jahl and his companions, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped by them and said: "May Allah requite you with evil as the people of a Prophet! How evil you were in driving him out, and how severe in belying him!" The Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, how can you speak to people who have become carrion?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You do not understand my words better than they do (or the narrator is unsure and the words may be:) they understand my words better than you do."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that the narrator Ibrahim did not hear from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), though he did visit her.
Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the slain (from among the polytheists) be thrown into the pit, and they were thrown into the pit, except Umayyah bin Khalaf, for this could not be done with him: he had swollen inside his coat of mail and filled it, and when the people tried to move him his body fell apart, so they left him where he was and threw earth and stones over him. When they had thrown the slain into the pit, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood by their bodies and said: "O people of the pit, have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true." His Companions said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, are you speaking to dead people?" After this the narrator mentioned the narration as before.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an order concerning more than twenty of the leaders of Quraysh, and they were thrown into one of the wells of Badr, a foul and filthy one. The narrator says: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) overcame a people, he would stay in that place for three days. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) overcame the people of Badr, he stayed there for three days, until on the third day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an order about his mount, and its saddle was fastened. Then he set off, and his Companions followed behind him. The narrator says: We thought that he must be going to relieve himself, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and stood at the edge of that well, and he called out to them by their names and the names of their fathers, saying: "O so-and-so son of so-and-so, would you now wish that you had obeyed Allah and His Messenger? Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Prophet of Allah, why do you speak to bodies that have no souls in them?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), you do not hear what I am saying better than they do." The narrator Qatadah says: Allah Almighty gave them life until they heard the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as a rebuke, to belittle them and to disgrace them. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This narration is reported in the Sahih in abridged form.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped by the slain of Badr and said: "May Allah requite you with evil on my behalf, as a band of people! You betrayed me although I was trustworthy, and you belied me although I was truthful." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned (towards the body of) Abu Jahl bin Hisham and said: "This man was more insolent towards Allah Almighty than Pharaoh. When Pharaoh became certain of his destruction, he affirmed the Oneness of Allah Almighty, but when this man became certain of death, he called upon al-Lat and al-Uzza."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You do not hear what I am saying better than they do, but today they are people who cannot reply."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
