Ata' al-Khurasani narrated: Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) on the day of Arafah while she was fasting and water was being sprinkled on her. Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: "Break your fast." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Should I break my fast when I have heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Fasting on the day of Arafah becomes an expiation for the sins of the year before it'?"
Imam Ahmad recorded it. The narrator Ata' did not hear from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her); rather, Yahya bin Ma'in said: To my knowledge he did not meet any of the Companions. The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Masruq narrated that he came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) on the day of Arafah and said: "Give me something to drink." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O boy, give him honey to drink." Then Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Masruq, are you not fasting?" He replied: "No, I feared that it might be the day of sacrifice." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "That is not so. The day of Arafah is the day which the Imam (i.e. the ruler of the time) has declared to be the day of Arafah, and the day of sacrifice is the day which the Imam (i.e. the ruler of the time) has declared to be the day of sacrifice. O Masruq! Have you not heard that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to regard this day as equal to a thousand days?"

Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir. Its chain mentions that al-Haytham bin Habib narrated it from Sallam al-Tawil. The narrator Sallam is da'if (weak). As for al-Haytham bin Habib, I have not seen anyone other than al-Dhahabi speak about him; al-Dhahabi accused him on account of a report that he narrated. Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
