عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنْ صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ قَالَ : " يُكَفِّرُ السَّنَةَ الَّتِي أَنْتَ فِيهَا ، وَالسَّنَةَ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ رِشْدِينُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، وَفِيهِ كَلَامٌ ، وَقَدْ وُثِّقَ .

Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah, and he said: "It becomes an expiation for the year in which you are, and (it becomes an expiation) for the year after it as well."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Rishdin bin Sa'd, about whom criticism has been made, although he has been declared trustworthy.
