Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I did not fast one day of Ramadan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Without any excuse and without travel? He said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have done wrong. He said: Yes. What do you command me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Free a slave. The man said: By the One who sent you with the truth, I have never owned a slave. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fast two consecutive months. He said: I am not able to do that either. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Feed sixty needy people. He said: By the One who sent you with the truth, I cannot even feed my own family to their fill. The narrator says: Then a container with dates in it was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give these in charity to sixty needy people. He asked: To whom should I give them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: To the neediest person you know. He said: By the One who sent you with the truth, in the whole city there is no household needier than ours. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then give it in charity to your own family.
Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man said: O Messenger of Allah, I am ruined; I deliberately broke my fast in the month of Ramadan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Free a slave. He said: I do not have the means. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fast two consecutive months. He said: I am not able to. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Feed sixty needy people.
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains al-Waqidi; he has been heavily criticised, though he has been declared trustworthy.

Hadith Takhrij«أخرجه مسند البزار برقم: 1107، وأخرجه البحر الزخار المعروف بمسند البزار 10 - 18 برقم: 8074»
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I deliberately broke my fast on a day in the month of Ramadan, and during it I had intercourse with my wife. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Free a slave. He said: I do not have it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give a sacrificial camel (badanah). He said: I do not have it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give twenty sa' of dates in charity, or nineteen, or twenty-one sa'. He said: I do not have the means for that either. A measure containing twenty sa' of dates was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: Give this in charity. He said: In all of Madinah there is no household needier of it than ours. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Feed it to your family.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: In the Sahih there is a narration from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) about the man who had intercourse, but not with this wording.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Layth bin Abi Sulaym; he is thiqah (trustworthy), but he is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain).

Ata, and Amr bin Shu'ayb from his father from his grandfather, narrated (the same) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), except that they added the words: "a sacrificial camel." Amr narrated in his version: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the man to fast one day in its place. He mentioned it after the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), similar to what is in the Sahih, except for these words: "Eat it, you and your family."
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, and he has been criticised.
