Sayyiduna Zayd bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, we went out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) towards the graveyard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat facing a grave, and we saw him as though he were speaking in intimate prayer. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, wiping the tears from his eyes. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) met him; he was the first of us to reach him. He said: "May my father and mother be ransomed for you, why are you weeping?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I asked my Lord for permission to visit my mother's grave, for she is my mother and she has a right over me. I intended to pray for her forgiveness, but my Lord forbade me." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to us to sit down, so we sat, and he said: "I had forbidden you from visiting graves; now whoever of you wishes to visit (the graves), let him visit. And I had forbidden you from consuming the meat of sacrificial animals beyond three days; now eat it and also store it as much as you see fit. And I had forbidden you from certain kinds of vessels and permitted you certain kinds of vessels; so now prepare nabidh (in any kind of vessel), for a vessel does not make anything lawful or unlawful. However, avoid every intoxicant."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: other hadiths of this kind will come later in the chapter on drinks, if Allah wills.
