What one should say when visiting graves

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to al-Baqi', that is, Baqi' al-Gharqad, and recited: "Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of the dwellings of the Muslims and the believers. May Allah Almighty have mercy on those who have gone ahead. And if Allah wills, we too shall join." The narrator says: that is, join you.
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains Ghalib bin Abdullah, who is da'if (weak).

It is narrated from him: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Sayyiduna Mus'ab bin Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was returning from Uhud. He stopped by (the graves of) him and his companions and said: "I bear witness that you are alive in the presence of Allah Almighty." (Then he said to his own Companions:) "Visit (their graves) and send salam upon them. By the One in whose Hand is my soul, whoever sends salam upon them, they will keep responding to him until the Day of Resurrection."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Abu Bilal al-Ash'ari, whom al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) declared da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Mujammi' bin Jariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) attended a funeral of Banu Amr bin Awf. When he came to the graveyard, he said: "Peace be upon the people of the graves." He said this three times. (Then he said:) "Whoever among you is a believer and a Muslim: you have gone ahead of us, and we are following after you. May Allah Almighty grant us and you well-being."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Isma'il bin Ayyash; he has been criticised, and he has also been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Bashir bin al-Khasasiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and caught up with him at al-Baqi', and I heard him say: "Peace be upon the inhabitants of the dwellings of the believers." (The narrator says:) My sandal strap broke, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Walk without the sandal." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have been away from my land for quite a long time, and I am far from the place of my people." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bashir, do you not praise Allah Almighty for this, that Allah Almighty took you by the forelock from among the people of Rabi'ah (and granted you the guidance of Islam), a people who think that, were it not for them, the earth would be overturned along with everything on it?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). Ahmad also recorded a chain of it, which will come later in the chapter on virtues, if Allah wills.
