Al-Muttalib bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: The people began to dispute about the recitation in the Zuhr and Asr prayers, so they sent me to Kharijah bin Zayd. He said: Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b related this: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to stand for a long time and move his lips, from which I came to know that this was only because of recitation, so I also do the same.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani (in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir) recorded it; its chain contains Kathir bin Zayd, about whose use as evidence there is disagreement.

Yazid bin al-Bara' relates: Sayyiduna Ubayy said: "Gather together so that I may show you how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution (wudu) and how he used to pray, for I do not know how much longer I will remain with you." The narrator relates: Then he gathered his children and his family, called for water for ablution, rinsed his mouth, put water into his nose, washed his face three times, washed his right arm three times and washed his left arm three times. Then he said: "This is how (the ablution of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)) was. I have not fallen short in showing you how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution." Then he entered his house and offered a prayer; we do not know which prayer it was. Then he came out and gave the order for the prayer, so the iqamah was called, and he led us in the Zuhr prayer. I think I heard some verses of Surah Ya-Sin from him. Then he led the Asr prayer, then he led us in the Maghrib prayer, then he led us in the Isha prayer. Then he said: "I have not fallen short in showing you how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution and how he used to pray."
