Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: While leading them in the Zuhr prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited aloud; he recited Surah al-Shams and Surah al-Layl. Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, have you been given some command concerning this prayer?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, but I wanted to set a measure for you (of how much should be recited)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Abu al-Rijal al-Ansari al-Basri, who is munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected).
