The science of drawing lines (geomancy)

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One of the prophets used to draw lines (that is, make calculations by means of geomancy). (In the present time,) if someone's line (that is, his method of calculation) agrees with his line, then he gains knowledge."
Al-Bazzar narrated it from his teacher Abu al-Sabbah Muhammad bin al-Layth. Ibn Hibban mentioned Abu al-Sabbah Muhammad bin al-Layth in his book al-Thiqat and said: "He makes mistakes and (also) narrates contrary (to other narrators)." The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said (the narrator Sufyan says: to my knowledge he narrated this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)): (Allah, the Exalted, says in the Qur'an:) "Or a remnant of knowledge." This refers to drawing lines (that is, geomancy).
Ahmad recorded it.

Tabarani recorded this in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; he says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about drawing lines (that is, geomancy), and he said: "It is part of the remnant of knowledge (which is mentioned in the Qur'an)."
The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Tabarani recorded this in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) as a mawquf report (a saying of the Companion). Regarding the saying of Allah Almighty: "Or a remnant of knowledge," Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "It refers to fine handwriting."
