Sayyiduna Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The drinker of wine is not a believer while he drinks it; the fornicator is not a believer while he commits fornication; and the one who plunders something of value is not a believer while he plunders it."
Ahmad, Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Mudrik bin Umarah, whom Ibn Hibban mentioned in the book al-Thiqat, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The fornicator is not a believer while he commits fornication; the drinker of wine is not a believer while he drinks it; the thief is not a believer while he steals; and the one who plunders something of value is not a believer while he plunders it."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir as a long narration, and al-Bazzar also recorded it. From this narration Ahmad mentioned only fornication and theft. Ahmad's chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and Tabarani's chain contains a narrator, Mu'alla bin Mahdi; Abu Hatim says: "This man sometimes narrates munkar (rejected) hadith," and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in the book al-Thiqat.

It is reported about Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once a man passed by her door who had been beaten for drinking wine. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: "What is his matter?" I said: "This is a man who was caught while intoxicated, so he was beaten." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah)! I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'No drinker is a believer while he drinks (the narrator states:) she meant wine; the fornicator is not a believer while he commits fornication; the thief is not a believer while he steals; and the one who plunders something of value to which people raise their eyes is not a believer while he plunders it. So beware! Beware!'"
Ahmad recorded it, al-Bazzar recorded part of it, and Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that the narrator Ibn Ishaq is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain). The narrators of al-Bazzar are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The fornicator is not a believer while he commits fornication; the thief is not a believer while he steals; the drinker of wine is not a believer while he drinks it." We said: "O Messenger of Allah! How will that be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Faith departs from that person; if he repents, faith returns to him."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and al-Bazzar also recorded it. Tabarani's chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, whom al-Ijli declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Ahmad and others declared him da'if (weak) because of his poor memory.

Alqamah bin Qays states: I saw Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) on the pulpit of Kufah, and he was saying: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The fornicator is not a believer while he commits fornication; the thief is not a believer while he steals; the one who plunders something to which people raise their eyes is not a believer while he plunders it; and the man who drinks wine is not a believer." A man stood up and said: "O Commander of the Believers! Does whoever commits fornication become a disbeliever?" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command us to keep the hadiths of concession unexplained. 'The fornicator is not a believer' means that he believes that this fornication is lawful for him; if he believes that this fornication is lawful for him, he becomes a disbeliever. 'The thief is not a believer' means that he believes regarding that theft that it is lawful for him; if he believes that the theft is lawful for him, he becomes a disbeliever. 'The drinker of wine is not a believer while he drinks it' means that he believes that the wine is lawful for him; if he drinks that wine while believing that wine is lawful for him, such a person becomes a disbeliever. 'The one who plunders something of value is not a believer while he plunders it' means that he believes that thing is lawful for him; if he snatches that thing while believing that it is lawful for him, such a person becomes a disbeliever."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir; its chain contains a narrator, Isma'il bin Yahya al-Taymi, who is a kadhdhab (liar); it is not permissible to narrate from him.

Al-Fadl bin Yasar states: I heard Muhammad bin Ali (perhaps this refers to Imam al-Baqir) when he was asked about this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The fornicator is not a believer while he commits fornication; the thief is not a believer while he steals." Muhammad bin Ali drew a large circle on the ground, then drew another circle in its middle, and said: "The first circle is Islam, and the circle in the middle is faith. When a person commits fornication, he goes out of faith into Islam, but nothing except shirk (associating partners with Allah) takes him out of Islam."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, al-Fadl bin Yasar, whom al-Uqayli declared da'if (weak).
