Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf states: Once Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) met on (the hill of) Marwah. The two of them talked with each other for a while; then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) went away, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) stayed there and began to weep. A man asked him: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! Why are you weeping?" He said: "He (he meant Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him)) has stated that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever has pride in his heart equal to the weight of a grain, Allah Almighty will throw him on his face into Hell.'"
Ahmad and Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) states that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever dies in such a state that there is pride in his heart equal to the weight of a mustard seed, that person will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, nor will he see it (Paradise)." A man from Quraysh named Abu Rayhanah said: "O Messenger of Allah! I love beauty and desire it, so much so that I even like the hanging strap of my whip and the strap of my sandal to be fine." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is not pride. Indeed, Allah Almighty is beautiful and He loves beauty. Pride is that a man turns away from the truth and regards people with contempt in his eyes."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator named Shahr, who narrated it from a man who has not been named.

Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person in whose heart there is pride equal to the weight of a grain will not enter Paradise." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! Then we are ruined! How can we know that there is no pride in our hearts, and where could it be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wears woollen clothing, or milks a goat, or eats with his slave, then, if Allah wills, there will be no pride in his heart."
Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Yazid bin Abd al-Malik al-Nawfali, who is extremely munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected).

Sayyiduna Fadalah bin Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are three kinds of people about whom no inquiry will be made: a man who contends with Allah Almighty over His cloak, for His cloak is grandeur and His lower garment is might; a man who is in doubt about the command of Allah Almighty; and the one who despairs of His mercy."
Tabarani recorded it in this form in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and al-Bazzar recorded it as a longer narration, which will come later in the chapter on major sins; its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he passed through the market carrying a bundle of firewood. He was asked: "Why have you done this, when Allah Almighty has made you free of need of it?" He said: "I intended to crush pride. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'A person in whose heart there is pride equal to a mustard seed will not enter Paradise.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him): Once, while passing through one of the streets of Madinah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was holding the hand of Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), when a begging woman came in front of them in the middle of the road, with the wind blowing dust into her face. Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari said to that woman: "Move out of the way of the Messenger of Allah!" The woman said: "This road is wide; he can take whichever way he wishes." This weighed heavily on Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), so that his face fell because of it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recognised his displeasure from his face and said: "O Abu Musa! Has what this begging woman said weighed heavily on you?" I said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you! When she made light of what I told her regarding the Messenger of Allah, it weighed heavily on me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not speak to her, for she is arrogant." I said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! How can she be arrogant?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even though this is not within her power, it is present in her heart."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Bilal bin Abi Burdah.

A man said to her: "Make way!" The woman said: "The road is there." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave her, for she is afflicted with arrogance."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and Abu Ya'la also recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Yahya al-Himmani, whom Ahmad declared da'if (weak) and accused of lying. Al-Bazzar also recorded this narration, and he declared it weak on account of another narrator.

Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was travelling, and a man was going ahead of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), checking whether there was anything on the road that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would dislike, so that if there were, he would remove it. Meanwhile an old woman appeared. After this the narrator mentioned the full hadith.

This narration is mentioned in the biography of Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him), and the narration before it is mentioned in the biography of Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him).
