Sa'd bin Ishaq bin Ka'b bin Ujrah narrates from his paternal aunt Zaynab bint Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with her) that Furay'ah bint Malik bin Sinan (may Allah be pleased with her) informed her that she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) about returning to her family (Banu Khudrah), and that her husband had gone out in search of slaves of his who had run away; when they were at the edge of al-Qadum, he caught up with them, and they killed him. I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "May I return to my family? My husband did not leave me in a dwelling that he owned." She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, you may return." I turned away, until, when I was in the chamber or in the mosque, I was called, or an order was given concerning me, and I was summoned to him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What do you say?" I repeated to him (peace and blessings be upon him) the story I had mentioned about my husband, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stay in your house until your waiting period is completed." She said: So I observed (the waiting period) in it for four months and ten days. When Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a messenger to me and asked me about that, I informed him, and he followed it and judged according to it.

It is narrated from Yahya bin Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sa'd bin Ishaq bin Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah have mercy on him) informed him that his paternal aunt Zaynab bint Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with her) informed him: I heard Furay'ah bint Malik (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), mentioning that her husband was killed in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and she wanted to move from her husband's house to her family. She mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted her to move. When she turned to leave, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called her and said: "Stay in your house until 'the prescribed term reaches its end' [Surah al-Baqarah: 235], that is, until the waiting period ends."

It is narrated from Yahya that Sa'd bin Ishaq informed him that the hadith of Furay'ah (may Allah be pleased with her) was mentioned to Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). He sent (a messenger) to her, and when she came in to him, he asked her about the hadith, and Furay'ah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that hadith to him.

It is narrated from Ibn Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard his paternal aunt narrating from Furay'ah (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), that she was with her husband in one of the villages of Madinah. Her husband went after some foreign servants, and they killed him. She came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), complained of the loneliness of her home, mentioned that she was living in a house that was not hers, and asked permission to move to the house of her brothers in Madinah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her permission, then he called her and said: "Stay in the house in which the news of your husband's death reached you until 'the prescribed term reaches its end' [Surah al-Baqarah: 235], that is, until the 'iddah is over."

Sa'd bin Ishaq said: I heard my paternal aunt Zaynab bint Ka'b bin Ujrah narrating from Furay'ah bint Malik (may Allah be pleased with her) that she was with her husband; then he mentioned the hadith in a similar way.
Likewise, Sufyan al-Thawri, Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar and Abu Bahr al-Bakrawi narrated it from Sa'd bin Ishaq bin Ka'b bin Ujrah. Hammad bin Zayd narrated it from Ishaq bin Sa'd bin Ka'b bin Ujrah, from Zaynab bint Ka'b, and it has also been said: from Hammad, from Sa'd bin Ishaq. 'Ishaq' is better known in Hammad's narration, and 'Sa'd' is better known in the narration of others. Muhammad bin Yahya al-Dhuhli held, in his view, that they are two (different people). And Allah knows best.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Furay'ah bint Malik (may Allah be pleased with her) that her husband went out in search of some of his foreign servants and was killed at Taraf al-Qadum. Hammad said: It is a place of water. She said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned my situation to him, and mentioned moving to my brothers. She said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted me. Then, when I had gone some distance, he (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and said: "Remain in your house until the prescribed term reaches its end."

Abu al-Hasan Ali bin Muhammad al-Muqri informed us; al-Hasan bin Muhammad bin Ishaq informed him; Yusuf bin Ya'qub narrated to him; Abu al-Rabi' narrated to him; Hammad bin Zayd narrated it from Sa'd bin Ishaq bin Ka'b bin Ujrah, and then he mentioned a similar hadith. If they are not two (different people), then this is more appropriate, as it agrees with all the other narrators from Sa'd.
Al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) also narrated it from Sa'd. In one narration he said: "From Ibn Ka'b bin Ujrah"; in another he said: "It reached me from Sa'd, from his paternal aunt"; and in another he said: "A man from the people of Madinah called Malik bin Anas narrated to me from Sa'd bin Ishaq bin Ujrah." Then he mentioned it similarly to the narration of the group from Malik (may Allah have mercy on him). This hadith is well known through Sa'd bin Ishaq, and a group of the imams have narrated it from him. And Allah knows best.

It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) that Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) used to send back, from al-Bayda', the women whose husbands had died; he would prevent them from Hajj.
