It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed from the spoils (nafl) two shares for the horse and one share for the man.
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب قسم الفيء والغنيمة / 12864
It is reported from Ubaydullah (may Allah have mercy on him) likewise, except that he did not say: "from the spoils (nafl)."
Some narrators erred in it and narrated from Abu Usamah and Ibn Numayr, from Ubaydullah: "and one share for the man on foot." The correct version is the narration of the majority from these two and from others, from Ubaydullah, as we have mentioned. Sufyan al-Thawri, who is an imam, and Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir, who is one of the hadith masters (huffaz), narrated it from Ubaydullah with the explanation.

Sayyiduna Mujammi' bin Jariyah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of the reciters of the Qur'an. He says: We were present at al-Hudaybiyah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When we returned from it, suddenly the people were urging on their camels. Some asked: What is the matter with the people? It was said: Allah Almighty has sent revelation to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So we set out, hurrying, and we found the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) standing near Kura' al-Ghamim. The people gathered around him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited to them: "Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory" [Surah al-Fath: 1]. A man said: O Messenger of Allah! Is it a victory? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, by Allah! It is a victory." So Khaybar was divided among the people of al-Hudaybiyah; no one else was included with them (the people of al-Hudaybiyah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divided it into eighteen shares, and the army numbered fifteen hundred, (among them) three hundred horsemen. He gave the horseman two shares and the foot soldier one share.
The Shaykh said: The narrations about the division of Khaybar and those about the people of al-Hudaybiyah are contradictory, and according to most narrations the people of al-Hudaybiyah were fourteen hundred.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: We were fourteen hundred in number at al-Hudaybiyah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Today you are better than everyone who is on the earth." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: If only I had my eyesight, I would show you the place of the tree.
(b) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were fourteen hundred; this is also the view of the scholars of the military expeditions (maghazi), and that on the day of Khaybar he (peace and blessings be upon him) made the division for two hundred horses.

A son of Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah have mercy on him) and Abdullah bin Abi Bakr bin Hazm (may Allah have mercy on him) related that the division of the wealth of Khaybar was made into eighteen hundred shares, and this was the number of those among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) among whom Khaybar was divided, their horsemen and their foot soldiers: the men were fourteen hundred, and the horses were two hundred. So two shares were fixed for the horse, one share for its rider, and one share for each foot soldier.

When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered, he (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped the dust from the faces of both of them with his garment and said: "I have assigned two shares to the horse and one to the horseman; so whoever diminishes it, Allah will diminish him."

Abdullah bin Abi Bakr bin Muhammad bin Amr bin Hazm (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The division (of spoils) and the shares took place in the expedition against Banu Qurayzah. On that day there were thirty-six horses. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fixed two shares for a horse and one share each for the foot soldiers. The method of division proceeded on this. On that day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fixed three shares for the horseman and his horse (one share for him and two shares for the horse), and also fixed one share for the foot soldier. But on the day of Badr shares did not take place, nor were the spoils lawful for them then, until the people were about to perish. Then Allah Almighty made them lawful for them, saying: "Had there not been a prior decree from Allah" [Surah al-Anfal: 68] to the end of the two verses. Then the day of Uhud was a year of calamity, then the year of the Trench was a year of siege. Then came the expedition against Banu Qurayzah, and from it the practice of division has continued until today.
