Ibrahim al-Taymi narrates from his father, who narrates from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: We did not write anything from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) except the Qur'an and what is in this scroll. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Madinah is sacred from Ayr to Thawr. Whoever introduces an innovation in it or gives shelter to an innovator, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people; Allah will not accept from him any obligatory or voluntary deed. The protection granted by the Muslims is one; even the lowest of them may extend it. Whoever betrays a Muslim and breaks his covenant, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people; Allah will not accept from him any obligatory or voluntary deed. And whoever takes a people as his allies without the permission of his masters, upon him too is the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people; Allah will not accept from them any obligatory or voluntary deed."
