Salih bin Ibrahim bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf narrates from his father, who said: I caught a bird with a snare and went out holding it in my hand. My father, Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), met me and asked: "What is this in your hand?" I said: A bird I caught with a snare. He rubbed my ear hard, pulled it out of my hand and let it go, and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made the game between its two lava plains sacred." Abu Mus'ab said: That is, the two lava fields of Madinah.
(b) Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "made sacred the area between its two edges", meaning Madinah, and he did not mention the story.
