Nafi' bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Marwan bin al-Hakam addressed the people and mentioned Makkah, its people and its sanctity. Sayyiduna Rafi bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) called out to him and said: "Why is it that I hear you mention Makkah, its people and its sanctity, but you have not mentioned Madinah, its people and its sanctity, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made sacred the area between the two mountains of Madinah? We have this written on a piece of Khawlani leather; if you wish, I will read it to you." The narrator said: Marwan fell silent, then said: "I too have heard some of that."
