Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) gave instructions concerning Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he be brought into the mosque so that the funeral prayer could be offered over him, and the people disapproved of it. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: How quickly the people have forgotten! Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) not offer the funeral prayer of Suhayl bin al-Bayda' (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque?

Abbad bin Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and other wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the bier of Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) should be brought to them. So he was brought into the mosque, and the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered his funeral prayer standing at their rooms. Then it reached Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that some people had objected to this and said that it was an innovation (bid'ah), because the bier used not to be brought into the mosque. So Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: How quickly the people find fault with something of which they have no knowledge! They found fault with us because we called for the bier of Sa'd to be brought into the mosque. Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) not offer the funeral prayer of Suhayl bin Bayda' (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque!

It is narrated from Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) that when Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Bring him into the mosque so that I too may offer his funeral prayer. Objection was raised to this, so Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: By Allah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer of the two sons of Bayda', Suhayl and his brother, in the mosque.

Sufyan al-Thawri narrated it from Hisham bin Urwah, from his father (Urwah), that the funeral prayer of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was offered in the mosque. Abdullah bin al-Walid (may Allah have mercy on him) states that Sufyan al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) also mentioned this hadith.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever offers the funeral prayer in the mosque, there is nothing for him." Salih (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I saw that the bier was placed in the mosque, and I saw that when Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) found no place to offer the funeral prayer except the mosque, he went away without offering it.
This hadith is counted among the solitary narrations of Salih; the hadith of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) is more authentic than it, and the integrity of Salih, the freed slave of al-Taw'amah, is disputed: Malik bin Anas used to criticise him. And Allah knows best.
