Abdullah bin al-Harith, the cousin of Muhammad bin Sirin, narrates from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on a rainy day he said to his mu'adhdhin: "When you say 'Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah' (I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah), do not say 'Hayya ala al-salah' (Come to the prayer); rather say: 'Sallu fi buyutikum' (Pray in your homes)." The people objected to this, so he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This was done by one who was better than me, meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Friday prayer is obligatory, and I disliked making you come out so that you walk through mud and rain."

The people began looking at one another. He said: "It is as if you object to this! This was done by one who was better than me, meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Friday prayer is obligatory."

He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I disliked making you come out, although this was done by one better than me, meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I disliked that you should walk in mud and slippery ground.
