Abdullah bin al-Harith, the cousin of Muhammad bin Sirin, narrates from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on a rainy day he said to his mu'adhdhin: "When you say 'Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah' (I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah), do not say 'Hayya ala al-salah' (Come to the prayer); rather say: 'Sallu fi buyutikum' (Pray in your homes)." The people objected to this, so he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This was done by one who was better than me, meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Friday prayer is obligatory, and I disliked making you come out so that you walk through mud and rain."
