Humayd al-Fazari narrates from a woman of his tribe that Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us on a Friday and asked: How do you pray? Then he said: When you pray with the imam, pray as he prays; and when you pray on your own, then pray four rak'ahs.

Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: Among the jurists I met whose opinions reached me (and he named the seven jurists of the Tabi'in), together with eminent elders besides them from among their peers, people of jurisprudence and virtue; sometimes they differed on a matter, and we would take the view of the majority of them and the best of them in judgement. Then he mentioned some of their sayings, and then said: The jurists used to say that if a woman attends the Friday prayer or an Eid prayer, it suffices for her. And boys, slaves, women, travellers and the sick are likewise: Friday and Eid are not obligatory on them. If any of them attends Friday or Eid, that suffices for him.
