It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the expedition of Khaybar, and he mentioned the hadith, in which it says: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and ordered Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the iqamah for the prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in the morning prayer.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) halted with us for a night's rest when he (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from Khaybar. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will watch over the prayer for us?" Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will. (During the night) they slept until the sun rose. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal, did you sleep?" He said: That which took hold of your souls took hold of my soul (that is, sleep). He (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the adhan and the iqamah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Move away from this place of yours; here heedlessness befell you." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If any of you forgets a prayer, let him pray it when he remembers it." Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: "Establish the prayer for My remembrance" [Ta Ha: 14].
(b) In al-Muwatta', al-Zuhri narrated it from Ibn al-Musayyib in mursal form and mentioned the adhan in it. He also says that the adhan in this story is sahih (authentic) and established.

Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), that we travelled by night with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Some of the people said: O Messenger of Allah, if only you (peace and blessings be upon him) would halt with us for rest. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I fear that you will sleep through the prayer." Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will wake you. The people halted and lay down to rest, and Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) also leaned back against his mount, and sleep overcame him (may Allah be pleased with him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up, the edge of the sun had already risen. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal, where is what you said?" Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, never has a sleep like this been cast upon me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah took your souls when He willed and returned them to you when He willed." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal, stand and announce the prayer to the people." He performed ablution, and when the sun had risen high and turned white, he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and led the prayer.

Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that Zubayd bin al-Salt went out with Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) to al-Juruf. He looked and saw that he had had a wet dream. He said: By Allah, I think nothing other than that I have had a wet dream, and I did not even realise it, and I prayed without performing the ritual bath (ghusl). Then he performed the ritual bath, washed what he saw on his garment and sprinkled water on what he did not see, then gave the adhan and the iqamah, then he prayed calmly after the sun had risen high.
