(a) Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father that we were held back from the prayer on the Day of the Trench until, after Maghrib, when the night had fallen, we were given respite; and Allah Almighty says: "And Allah sufficed the believers in the fighting, and Allah is ever Strong and Mighty" [Al-Ahzab: 25]. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the iqamah for the prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Zuhr prayer, praying it well, just as he used to pray it. Then he ordered him and he gave the iqamah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Asr prayer in the same way; then he ordered him and he gave the iqamah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Maghrib prayer in the same way; then he ordered him and he gave the iqamah, and he led the Isha prayer in the same way. This was before the prayer of fear was revealed: "Then (pray) on foot or riding" [Al-Baqarah: 239].
(b) Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him), in his new view, narrated it likewise from Ibn Abi Fudayk from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, and Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi narrated it from Ibn Abi Dhi'b with the same meaning, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave an iqamah for each prayer.
(c) It is narrated from Ibn Abi Dhi'b that he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the adhan and the iqamah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Zuhr prayer; then he ordered him, and he gave the iqamah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Asr prayer; then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him, and he gave the iqamah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Maghrib prayer; then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him, and he gave the iqamah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Isha prayer.
(d) Likewise Abu Ubaydah bin Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates it from his father in one of the two narrations from him, but he did not narrate directly from his father. This narration is mursal.

It is narrated from Abu Ubaydah that Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The polytheists kept the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) occupied from four prayers on the Day of the Trench until a large part of the night had passed. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the adhan and the iqamah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Zuhr prayer; then he gave the iqamah and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Asr prayer; then he gave the iqamah and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Maghrib prayer; then he gave the iqamah and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Isha prayer."
Hisham al-Dastuwa'i narrated it from Abu al-Zubayr, and there was disagreement over him regarding the adhan: some preserved it from him and some did not. Imam al-Awza'i (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Abu al-Zubayr that the prayers were offered one after another, with an iqamah for each.
